Ringmaster +P PDF files
« on: November 01, 2017, 09:51:29 AM »
Here is the PDF file for the Ringmaster +P.  Fun little plane that takes the performance out the top.  Same areas and shapes as the original RM S-1 kit.  The only exception is the airfoil which has the +P designation that most of all my Ringmaster variants have.  One of the early versions with a foam wing was flown in the Walker Cup fly-off in 2008.  A kit for the plans shown on the PDF file is available.  Once again, feel free to download the PDF and make your own copies.
Now the bad news.  I added up the costs for a kit with the wood costs, hardware, plans, and laser time at just over $85.  The cost of contest grade balsa has doubled in the last 10 years, so I need to increase the kit price to $95.  It was kind of a shocker to add up the wood and parts and come up with a reasonable kit price.  I guess our hobby has had increasingly higher costs over these last  few years.

Forgot to say that I have an electric conversion for this one, too.

Hey Pat: Was that you that had a generic E-power conversion kit, what I'm thinking of was basically motor mounting and maybe some kind of battery tray/mount ?  I'm getting ready to do a conversion on a Cardinal ARF..

Brodak has electric conversion kits for most planes.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

Here you go, Allan.  This is the nose of the Epiphany 557 showing the electric setup.  It has some nice operating qualities.  The ESC mounts on the bottom of the battery box and gets a lot of cooling.  Highest temperature for the ESC has been around 110 degrees.  The Hubin FM-9 timer is bolted directly on the right side with easy access to the start button and input prongs.  The battery slides in from the left side so centrifugal force helps hold it in, along with the securing plate.  This is what I call the "large" setup and handles an 11-12" prop well.  Tons of poop for a 46 ounce plane.  Perfect for your Cardinal.

I was referring to laser cut wood and/or ply parts which accommodate mounting of motor/battery.

Here is the electric conversion PDF file which shows all three sizes.  Small, medium, large.  The large one is the one shown on the Epiphany.  However, I use the Thunder Power 2800/4S battery in mine.  Definitely a little more headroom for battery reserves.  In all reality, a person could use the medium package for the Cardinal if an 11" prop would suffice and make the flyer happy.  That said, I think most flyers would be happier with too much torque for great pulling power through the hard corners.  As my buddy, Mark Scarborough coined the description "TRACTION" from a bigger prop.

I was looking at the electric conversion pdf. On the shark 402, will the specified battery make it through the full pattern?

Thanks, Matt

So this kit is not OTS legal, right?

Target and Matt,
Definitely not OTS legal.  Different and new airfoil.
And yes, we are getting about 900-1100 mah usage out of the 1550 battery.  Now that is with a 28 ounce RTF Shark 402.  A Ringmaster +P would not be appreciably different.  This puts it way under the reasonable draw-down for the battery for good battery safety.  Nice setup.
