Maybe the light will come on at FAA and they will take notice. Exempt all control line flying from any and all government regulations. Just common sense.

Outstanding!!  It truly "zeros" in to the specifics in question.  Perhaps this should / could be submitted to the AMA or FAA for their review and consideration.

What really needs to happen is everybody send the link to AMA. Send it a thousand times instead of just bitching and moaning here. Maybe then the message will get through.

To clarify, the "CAA" is the Civilian Aviation Authority in UK. UK is not University of Kentucky, either! I have come to strongly dislike acronyms. There are multiple groups using "CAA". Folks are too damned lazy to type out the words.  Steve

Old military types.  You can't communicate in the military without acronyms and profanity and in some cases acronyms for profanity.

  Well, they may have got the control line issues right, but it sounds like the free flight and R/C groups over there are taking a big hit. I had an article come up on my from from google news at work the other day describing what they have been dealing with. Our R/C guys and free flight guys will be here also. What needs to be done is the new law amended and the previous rule put back in place, and any new restrictions and regulations apply to the area that it belongs and that is with the multi rotor people. I really think that the worst has passed, the fad is fading and all will settle down to a mild roar and cooler, smarter heads will prevail, but not necessarily with the AMA leading the way!

Control line has always been a discipline that AMA feels falls outside of the UAS definition but the FAA has only verbally agreed with us on this in the past.  While the FAA has been unwilling to make a control line separation in writing, hopefully this development may make them more willing to do so. 

AMA will be addressing this subject with the FAA as we work through the new recreational operating requirements.  "

I think that the suggestion to  contact the AMA and write with regards to the CAA General Exemption for Control line Aircraft is a very good idea.  I'm doing my small part.

As the liason contact between the AMA and the government,  I am sending you a copy of ORS4  No. 1296, CAA General Exemption E-4856 in PDF format, and am requesting that you contact the FAA and encourage them to adopt a similar exemption for Control Line Model Aviation.
