Request for a few Portland Area pilots, August 6th
« on: July 13, 2016, 12:45:41 PM »
On Saturday, August 6th (same weekend as the Bladder Grabber), my RC club will be having its annual fun fly and picnic.

The president has asked me to see if I could get some people out to show off control line stuff as part of the proceedings.  This is absolutely guaranteed to be disorganized as can be, but figure on putting up some flights somewhere between 11:00 and 1:00.

It should be a good opportunity for outreach to at least some of the RC community.

I'll be there, and I'm expecting one or two other stunt flyers to show up.  But -- stunt is nice in a cerebral sort of way, but can be boring for those with short attention span.  Because of the Grabber I can't hope for combat, but it would be exceptionally cool if enough people could show up to put on a one-heat race -- mouse race, NW 40 race, run-what-you-brung race -- anything that will put two or three pilots in the middle of the circle and pit men on the edge acting nuts.  If we could manage this with muffled planes it would be exceptionally nicer, but we've had unmuffled planes in the control line circle from time to time and haven't gotten complaints.

Alternately, I'll have my Ringmaster carrier plane, so if someone else brings something carrier-ish we could put up a couple of flights.  We can spray-paint a carrier deck on the grass.

If someone has speed and/or scale planes that they can bring and show off that would be cool -- there's a lot of ARF pilots in the club, but they all appreciate good workmanship.  If you have a jet -- don't plan on putting it up, but oh, it would be nice to show off.

Let me know.  This is going to be a side-show and not a contest, so there'll be time for one mini-event or just a few demonstration flights.  The club is offering membership benefits for the day for people who come fly -- that means that if you want to enter our fun-fly you can pay the entry fee and enter, and if you want to join the raffle it'll be $1 per ticket.

At worst it'll be me and my wife -- I can put up a stunt flight and a carrier flight, she can put up a beginner flight and maybe not crash, and we can show stuff off.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
