Was the number 2 plane trailing for 6 laps and then over taking for first position, a strategy thing, or did the lead plane make some mistake?

Been 4 decades since I was at a Reno race, and until this year with you guys posting I have not followed any these type air races

I read that the lead Mustang developed some sort of carburetor problem which is why it stopped while taxiing in. It flew home after the carburetor was replaced with a back-up unit
