RCATS
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:49:11 PM »
just wanted to let everyone know that I had a problem with mine. It was almost 4 years old, and it would not charge. I was thinking it was the battery. The hard case was broke and I wanted a new one and a soft case. I got a call and he sent me a new one with soft case for $35. What a deal this was. I just wanted to let everyone know what great service I got, and the price. This has been the best glow driver I ever had, and I would have got a new one.

I called the manufacturer with questions, specifically if the RCATS lights every sort of plug equally. His answer was that it senses resistance and compensates, which didn't really leave me all warm and fuzzy. I told him I already had stuff that works on everything from Fox plugs to Cox glow heads, but that they take different dial settings to glow sufficiently, and I was hesitant to plop down big bucks on a device that may or may not be better. To my surprise he offered to mail me an RCATS so I could give it a try. I took him up on the offer.
I found the 90 second auto shut-off to be annoying. Nothing like flipping a balky engine over and over before you realize the thing shut off a minute ago. I guess that can be programmed to a longer delay if you ask him to do so. He also offered the possibility of installing a dial to adjust current, but I already have that on my power panel. If I didn't already have nicad drivers and power panels I probably would go with a custom tweaked RCATS, as it's a quality device in a handy, lightweight package.
If I didn't occasionally dabble in Cox .049 powered bouncers, the RCATS would be just the ticket. But I found the RCATS didn't light a Cox glow head very brightly, so I mailed it back with my thanks.

No Jim not my grief...yours.  I was alluding to the fact that you indicated that you would flip a prop for up to 2 1/2 minutes without checking to see if the light on the Rcats were on.
You seemed to have made up your mind about this device before you accepted the offer of trying one then fabricated a reason to be right about it!  Can you not see that truism!

I've used one of these for over a year and find it to be close to perfect in operation.  Admittedly I do not fly 1/2A tiddlers so that could indeed be a concern if you do.  I do know others that do however and seem to have no problem!

You certainly are entitiled to your opinion.  I just wondered why if you were so happy with your power panels and Nicad starters you were even searching for an alternative.

I would mention that I use mine often and have charged it twice in the year I've had it and that was only because I felt guilty about not charging it.  Nicad starters on the other hand require charging very often and are famous for having the batteries die a total death from overcharging if left on charge for too long.  I've killed at least three of them this way!
My bad!
