Hi Howard,
What is TUT?

Everybody: I am moving the issue and the conversation ( please stick to the subject) to my newly created thread titled "Electric Plane Trimming - do and don't". This thread is now available in https://stunthanger.com/smf/gettin-all-amp'ed-up!/?action=post.

Thank you,
Matt

Tim Wescott has been working for years now on a Universal timer as noted elsewhere in these forums

One of these days he is adding the ability to micro shift Howard's vortex generators to the optimum AOA given various flight envelopes---IE: the added benefit of being 100% stall immune at 60 degree AOA and 33% cruise  air speed

SO we have Tim's Universal Timer (TUT)*

Great thread, I have learned much.

The only suggestion that I have for Matt is, have you tried walking away from the model upon take off?
(Rather like the reaction of pulling back on a dog lead when it wants to pull away and showing it who is boss.)

My thinking is that if you have inflight rpm at take off then you should have inflight line tension or greater.

Just a thought.

Hi Howard,
What is TUT?

Tim's Universal Timer, made by Tim Wescott.  It's real.  It can be used as a standalone timer, but I use it as a supplement to Igor's.

I seem to recall from sometimes "launching" electrics for Pete Ferguson and Mike Haverly that the ESC (or timer?) can be set to ramp up rpm at various rates, at least on some of them. Bear in mind that I don't know much about the ESC/Timer hardware, because none of that appeals to me...at all. Advantages, yes, but not interesting. At the contest this weekend, we had one entrant unable to fly because his electric stuff wasn't repairable on the field. Of course, if it had been glow powered, we could have gotten it going. Hmmmm. Advantage to glow!

I know Mike (and others) has gone from waiting for max rpm, to letting it start unattended once he got the handle/safety thong situated, and lately back to waiting for max rpm. It's kinda funny, since Mike (who can't hear any better than I can, which isn't saying much) is way over there and listening for the rpm to peak, while I'm right there and my head is bobbing up & down, trying to give him that message (which he ignores). Meanwhile, I'm wondering how many electrons are going down the spout while all that's going on.  :-\ Steve

His motor had a bad bearing, which squawked when it came up to speed.  He could hear that and would then signal to launch.  After he changed the bearing we had the situation you describe above.

No, this was at Auburn Muni, so quite awhile ago. I miss PFerg's electric with the bad bearings, which made more noise than my Magnum XLS .36 with the .46LA muffler.  LL~ Steve
