Piped Fuse
« on: July 21, 2009, 07:12:11 AM »
I have noticed that some of the pipe ships have a rounded bottom fuse which hides the pipe and most of the engine. How is this done? Is formers used?

Thanks for your help!!!!

Hi Steven,

I don't know about others, but those I have built with a rounded bottom were done either using blocks carved and hollowed, or molded balsa shells.  (??)  Things are shown on Randy's designs as to how his fuse bottoms are made.  It can often be a fairly thin *block* (3/8th"-1/2") to give the rounded look.  I don't remember using anymore than 3/4" on any piped ship bottoms.

I like Al Rabe's methods of using sheet with inside support in the corners to give something to carve into to add a round look.
