Why are you making the request?

Because of my incredible good looks; I don't want to take a chance on flying with any ugly stunt pilots.  LL~ Sorry, the response sounded so suspicious!! I know that Dale Gleason and his gang pretty much makes up the Dallas crew, and I know what they are flying, (they really like Impacts around there) but, the Austin Metroplex is the next major center in Texas, and I would like to see how they are rolling-whats up!

Hey, there are two major Universities in the area; Austin is supposed to be "our Silicon Valley”-Dell etc. I figure, with that much energy packed into one area, the model airplane activity has GOT to be slamming, (model aviation pulls a lot of mental energy).

If you are the same guy I think you are, then you would be the equivalent of our Larry Renger-Mr. Half-A. But what about the rest?

I am also interested in Austin area C/L activity. There is a good chance that I may be traveling there around the end of this year / early 2011 for work. If the project comes together like I hope it will I may be in / out of Austin for up to a year.

Is the winter weather decent? If I can't be at home in FL, I think I would prefer Austin over the cold winds of Alburquerque in Jan-March!

If you REALLY BELIEVE that, you need to take real good look at a Texas map. Austin, like so many state capitols, is one of the back-water towns of the state.  >:D

Bill Lee is just jealous. Austin has the most congested traffic of any mid size city in the country, and 7% unemployment.  Winter weather is generally fine, with occasional cold spells.  We even had a half day of snow last winter.  There are three or four fairly regular CL fliers in the greater metro area.  Give me a holler if you are going to be in the area.  512-301-4077

Jim,

Has there been anything in the local paper or newscasts regarding a large investment in one of the Semi-conductor fabs in Austin?  I am hoping my employer gets some orders and sends me there to install some equipmment.

I was there several times a couple years ago and really liked the area- great food, plenty of entertainment, nice weather- but the traffic on I-35 was horrendous. There was construction everywhere and I kept getting off at the wrong exits and couldn't get back on the freeway without driving around and under it about 3 times!

What part of town do you guys fly in?

Yes the I35 traffic is as bad as it gets.

Jim,
Have you heard from Orlando lately?

Jim,

I was on the I35 at rush some time back. Never ceases to amaze me, that they think this is as bad as LA's traffic-say, on the 405 with multiple accidents at rush hour. "You know,Beirut may not be so bad after all"-if you can get pass that first I.E.D., after that, it's pretty much  clear sailing.

We fly at Mike Krizan's place a couple of miles off 183 West past Liberty Hill. It is a 49 mile one way through Austin drive for me.  Nice mowed circle with a concrete pad.  I can give exact directions when needed.  Haven't seen Orlando for a while.  He is busy with some other things and isn't actively flying at the moment.

Jim, would you go back to St Louis if you had a chance?  If Austin is like Springfield Mo.  the only updated road is east-west thru town.  Don't remember it being that hard to get around back when I lived down in the area.  Even St Louis is not that bad for traffic to me.  Of all places Oklahoma OK was the scariest place for me to drive thru on I-35, but now the construction is done and it is a breeze.  But, I like it here where the weather this year went from winter to summer with no spring.  I hope fall is still in the picture tho. Doc, I really enjoyed living in the St. Louis area.  If health permits, I'm planning to come up for the Broken Arrow Contest in September.  The modeling venue in the St. Louis area is much better than here, and I do miss it.  I particularly liked fall of the year in that area.  I'm happy here because it is pretty close to home, and I do like the climate.
