Picture Leaching
« on: July 22, 2018, 06:27:08 AM »
I have tweaked the forum once again. It seems we have been attacked once again with a DDOS. So to help combat this I have made registration more secure with questions that must be answered and I have turned off leaching. What is leaching some may ask. You will no longer be able to post a link on another website that will show an html picture on that site. The link will show but not the picture.

mw~ Seems I have to implement voter ID and paper ballots here. LL~

Inline linking (also known as hotlinking, leeching, piggy-backing, direct linking, offsite image grabs) is the use of a linked object, often an image, on one site by a web page belonging to a second site. One site is said to have an inline link to the other site where the object is located.

That's interesting to me because I frequently host my own pictures from my DropBox account and post the links in the threads on SH. DBox has a limited bandwidth restriction, and I need to find out if I can access its history to individual pictures, or at least folders.

You can still link a picture from there to here just not from here to anywhere else. It was sucking up so much bandwidth I had to turn it off
