P 40 Stunt .
« on: October 30, 2018, 06:02:24 PM »
If p -40 is ' PROfile Stunt ' , I think we should change it to ' PRO 40 STUNT ! .

Just watching this , & looked up Tutor & saw ' Profile Stunt ' on the plan . Thought thus amended to ' Pro Stunt '
would be witty, in multiple dimensions .

Here in the NW, we dropped the .40 displacement limit and changed the name to just plain "Profile". There is no such thing as an event called "P-40" or "P-40 Stunt" here in the USA, and never has been.

If somebody wants to fly a semi-scale profile P-40 in Profile Stunt, they can, but they can also fly it in any of the skill classes, or JSO. There is no such thing as "Pro Stunt", either, regardless of what Windy thought. So there...  y1 Steve

In 1944 18-20 year old's stormed beaches, and parachuted behind enemy lines to almost certain death.  In 2015 18-20 year old's need safe zones so people don't hurt their feelings.

    Hello Mr. Helmick;
  This has been hashed more times than Carter's has little liver pills! We here in the midwest have been participating in "P-40" for 20 to 25 years or so. As has been stated before, the event is mentioned on the cover art of the SIG Primary Force ARF as intended for the new 'P-40" event that they had introduced at the annual SIG  C/L contest a few years earlier. Both the Primary Force and the P-40 event were the brain child of Mike Pratt, who has chimed in several times before to confirm this. We have P-40 stunt governed by the SIG rules at our contest here in St. Louis. It in NOT an official AMA event, no profile stunt event is mentioned in the rule book. maybe some one that still has a vintage flyer from the SIG contest of that era can scan it and post it. It was billed as "P-40 Stunt" on the front and the rules were printed on the back of the event flyer.

Dan, you and SIG might have called it P-40, but that's not the original, correct name for the "Profile .40" event. Just saying that you have always written it like that doesn't make it correct. It's just a grammatical error, and it's not too late to get it right.

We knew that a lot of guys wanted to use the .46 LA, and there were a few profiles around the USA that used the G.51 and ST .60. We decided that the upper limit would sort itself out via vibration induced problems, and so our rules allow up to 15cc's, just like PA. Nobody suggested calling the event "P15" or even "P.90". Just plain "Profile" works fine.   H^^ Steve

Could someone who specializes in slab-sided fuselages be called a (ahem) “prophile”?

"In a few areas out here it is still called P 40.  You need to get out more."

The argument seems to be more about punctuation than anything else. I see you left it out...devious. Way ta go!

And no, it rains too much in Alabama, especially this week!  It's also rainy and blowing hard here. Dogwood tree lost about 2/3 of its leafs (note the Canadian spelling) just this afternoon.  H^^ Steve

It has been called P-40, P40, P Unlimited, Profile, and who knows what else.

It's an unofficial event, and doesn't have an official name.

Howard refers to it as "ProVile", being vocally against event proliferation. Maybe we can get Howard on board with "Proliferation .40"?  H^^ Steve

Here in El Dorado this weekend, we will be flying "Profile" with skill levels. (BIAE) "Run watcha brung," as long as it is a profile model. I've always accepted Profile as an entry level type of competition that should be flown with skill levels. Some contests don't. Kind of tough on the beginner flying against the expert, however Classic and Old Time don't have skill levels, but in most cases, I don't see a lot of beginners flying these events. Winning a Profile event as a beginner (IMHO) is a real "ego booster" and tends to keep one competing and enhancing one's skill.
