Great stuff...thanks Peabody!

The Champion framed Yamaha #14 is very nearly identical to one I rode in the early 70's.  Too bad no Trackmaster Yamaha or Trackmaster Triumps are shown...at least I didn't see any.
A lot of talent and BIG Egos in one place!

Worth a couple of tears...

There's some very exciting memories provided to me by many of those guys and I must share this with some "Buds" from my other life.
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

Come on Chuck,  we not only raced model planes, but raced motorcycles.   I was mainly drag strip competition.  My brothers ran flat track(1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 mile),  enduros and hill climbs.   I was the corner flagman on the number one turn at the old Lakeside Speedway of Kansas City Kansas and the old Olympic Stadium in KCMo.  Seen a lot of good racing and a few accidents.   The old Lakeside was shut down for a while after a stock car driver was killed while trying to get out of his car.   It was on fire and still moving when he was throwed from the vehicle.   Then my brother was flagging turn four when a motorcycle rider hit the concrete wall going into the front stretch.

A couple of years ago the new Lakeside Speedway tried to have races with the Flat Track Association.   Too many classes and too big a tack for most of them.  But, the video does not start the way I remember the movie.   The movie I seen was a guy riding a motorcycle on the rear wheel,  one hand on throttle,  one foot on back of seat and one foot on the foot peg.   They stated he would ride like that for miles getting ready for the motorcycle trials.   If you ever seen a trials you would know.   Can't put a foot down while riding the trails.     The one person missing is Dick Mann. Bugsy is a cool guy and very neat to talk to. I have been attending the ISDT Riders Reunion Rides when ever I can for the last 15 years or so and got his and Malcom Smith's autograph on my VHS copy of "OAS". Dick man was also a very good enduro/off road rider and has been instrumental in trying to preserve what was the old International Six Day Trials, the riders and the bikes that competed. Gary Nixon has since passed away, and I thought Burrito had also, but I guess not. Donnelson Cycles here in the St. Louis area has several of the bikes used by several of these guys back then, including several that were in the movie, in a small museum in the shop. These guys had nerves of steel, and had an unequaled love for the sport back in a time when making a living at it was almost impossible. Not anything like today's flamboyant Super Cross stars or what AMA flat track has become now. Bugsy Mann once told me that today's riders probably wouldn't even unload at some of the tracks that they used to race at.

Or Look . !   LL~

Thats a Hippie with the security device , whos only previous motorcycling experiance was driveing a 125 yamaha into a wall .  LL~ . Not to bad , no wriggles . One needs steady ballast .

You could trade these for quite a few C/L engines , if youve the like .

The ugly one is tuned T100 R 1955 powered , home made .  LL~ good on the dirt roads too .

I seem to recall Id oiled the chain on the Bonneville , and dismounting was disconcerted as to the
vertical track of oil on the rear of the pictured person . One must fit a chain guard .  LL~

Gentlemen;  Not you Peabody LOL   I am not against Motor Cycles but I was under the impression that various posts have been removed from the forum pages. I know they move things to different places from time to time. Well here's the deal. Yes it is called an open forum but like I said they have closed topics and locked them and moved them. Seeing as to how this one has nothing to do with stunt I felt they would remove it. Perhaps lock it out. Your correct and I believe in this, If you don't like it do not read it. Easy enough.

Obviously, Chuck.........you never rode a flat-tracker. I did more stunts on that ole Suzuki 500cc than I ever did before in all other venues!  And believe me, it would mortally fly!! ;D

I do remember that out on the farm there was a honda 450 550 650 whatever and I rode it around the fields as fast as I could take and not crash. Of course I did have some falls. But the field roads are all soft and I didn't get hurt. Yes it was great fun. I rode would have never rode it on pavement the way I did on dirt.

Or there could be an Off Topic thread. Much like BOTR site, nothing to do with control line, but something that others might have an interest in.

For those of you coming to the 2012 GSSC, which will be held at a new as yet undisclosed location, you can visit one of the worlds largest collection of flat track motorcycles at the Rouit Musuem in Clovis. http://vft.org/rouit.html

I've lived in this location for 20 years and just learned of it a few months ago. I'll be at their open house next month for sure!

I remember when those first showed on our local track.   When they ran they were unbeatable.   Most of the time the rider/mechanic were fiddling with them.    H^^

Jim - you kindled some memories. I raced a Bultaco Pur Sang in the early 70s. It had the Amal side-float carb and was temperamental as hell but when it ran, it was and still is the best handling bike I've ever owned.
It was one of the not-so-common 175s so I had to compete in the 250 class.

Me too Rich...after all of the years reading your posts..."Now I know." Another "scooter freak." A great post of pictures. A bunch of 'heavy hitters." I never did flat track, but made many a 1/4 mile run on a highly modified Honda at Master Field, Miami Florida in the sixties; when I wasn't building and flying models.

Well, to keep it on topic sort of. one of our stunt brethren used to hold a national number plate. Tom Lay has sent me a pic or two over the years  when he used to race at the old Ascot Speedway. I guess all the REALLY cool guys fly stunt and raced motorcycles in some form!!! I raced enduros and observed trial back in the day, but never got to trying flatrack, but watched a lot of it locally. I still collect, restore and race vintage enduro bikes and trials bikes today. Cleaned out the garage a bit today and then fired up my '77 400 Penton for a quick trip up and down the street before putting it away. Next up wil be a cleaning off of the work table , get the flight boxes cleaned up and organized, and try to get ready for whatever stunt contests I can make this year.

Hey Ace,

If you are having such a tough time with this thread, why don't you just quit reading it?  Obviously, a lot of people like this topic so who are you to tell others what they should like?  As Sparky said - it's like the television, you can always change the channel if you don't like the program.  Your threat seems pretty empty, kinda like BFD.

One of my other interests besides models is candlemaking. I started out refilling restaurant glass candles for the restaurant my mother worked for. Later I made candles for use during hurricanes. After a while I started using color and effects plus scent oils to make some unusual stuff. Here are a few examples.

One of my other interests i Archery. I hunted deer and attended contest. After a few years it got so I had to practice everyday or else I would fall out of the top three at the contests. I first started out doing what was called instinctive shooting and then decided to compete in the unlimited classification which meant using a sight. These where all recurve bows and the arrows where aluminum. Later they came out with compound bows which slowly became more popular. As they where technical you had to learn new skills. So as time wore on i had to leave the sport. Life and having a family and traveling helped me to leave this sport. Perhaps some of you did this to? My next addition to this thread will be another facet of the various things I have done in my 73 years.

Yeah......I still have several compounds and recurves.....I bet I have over 100 arrows...good thing about that is, they are CF and can be used to build my planes too! LOL I got a buncha pictures of deer I took using archery, but I major in long range rifle shooting. I have a decent collection of sniper rifles....the only one I don't have is the M14 I used in Nam....I was med-evac'ed to the states and heaterns[my buddies] stole all my sniper equipment. ;D

The one thing that is worse than being off topic is hijacking a thread! y1 y1 y1 Don't see no motorcycles or stunt models amongst the plants and candles. At least we tied things into stunt in some way. Anyway, the only good tomato is one that is squeezed into ketchup, and then put on a cheese burger!  LL~ LL~

It all fits together. I use the tomatoes I grow to keep the troops happy, so I get no arguments when I want to go flying. There is always a method to my madness.
