Ordering CL parts from RJL/Mecoa
« on: July 19, 2023, 07:27:21 AM »
I've been looking at their website and all I can find is R/C parts, and no way to order anything else. If you have figured it out, please tell me how! According to their website, their phone system sucks, so you can't order by phone, and you can email them, but it may never get a response, or you can fax them, which I can't do from home. Sounds flaky AH.

What I am looking for is #7738 NV Assy. for the rear intake K&B .40. Planning on ordering two. If anybody here happens to have two they can sell me, that'd be cool, but RJL/Mecoa is apparently challenging me to order direct!

TIA for any info leading to the purchase of the parts I need.  R%%%% Steve

I recently ordered some parts for a Cameron 19 -- I got onto the MECOA site from doing a general Google search on the part name; once there I ordered like a normal site.

They had all sorts of dire warnings about "we're understaffed, give us time" etc., etc. -- I got a call the first business day after I ordered, making sure I was ordering the right crank case, and I got my parts three or four days after that.

I think it's safe to give it a whirl.  You may want to Google for that K&B part number -- chances are the MECOA site will pop up in the results.

Steve, interesting. Every time I need something from them I just call them. Always get a answer. They are having a collecto there August 5th. If you haven't got them by then let me know and I'll see if I can pick them up .

You can buy the 3 piece NVA here.

Ding ding ding! Thank you for the link, Al. I'll order some of those "red caps" while I'm at it. When are the FF NATS? Bob Mattes will probably be attending, so I may have to wait.

Thanks also to the others who responded, but Al hit the nail on the head.

I did start on the MECOA website and found a way to just order by part number, which works, but I'd rather kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. There's supposed to be a set of plans for a George Fuller "Dixielander" A gas FF on the doorstep soon, and I bought an OS Max III .15 from the estate of the late & great PTG. Should be a nice combination.  ;D Steve

Got word back from Bob Mattes that he's folded his tent and only has two remaining K&B 2 pc. NV Assy's and they're earmarked for the last two engines he has to complete reworking for customers.

So, it's back to dealing directly with Mecoa. I'll give 'em a call and see how it goes, or maybe look toward eBay, Amazon or Walmart online. The last two are tongue in cheek...maybe. They have all sorts of stuff you wouldn't expect, but they're often just acting as an ordering service for small companies...exactly what RJL/Mecoa needs, it seems.  n~ Steve

I have ordered items from MECOA on their website with good success. Fox 35 NVA's, Fox plugs and weighted brass spinner nuts for example. The website is not the greatest but does work after you struggle a bit with it. But my parts have always been delivered.

I have no hesitation purchasing from MECOA.

Steve;

According the the MECOA site, they are instock and the cost is $23.99.

go to their home page, scroll down and click on their secure shopping cart,
type in needle valve assembly, hit enter and viola, it pops up showing good stock.

Thats the way I found it.

Their site also showed that they bought out all of Clarence Lees engines that he had tested for the
articles he wrote.  You have to send them an offer for the one you are interested in.

Thank you very much, Carl!!! I got 'er done, and expect the USPS will bring them to mi casa in a few days. Probably being optimistic, but it doesn't cost any more...in this case.

I gotta say, I think their website sucks and is a hodgepodge of patchworked garbage. Tackle Warehouse is way easier to navigate and I'd bet they carry way more items than Mecoa.  R%%%% Steve

It captures the one-man fleamarket vibe very nicely.

Yeah, that's a pretty good comparison. Lots wrong with it, if you actually want to do business with it.  y1 Steve

Wait -- you take the whole one-man fleamarket operation as a bad thing?  Weird.

The more model airplane stuff they can sell, the more they can afford to devote time & money to model airplane stuff, instead of all that aerospace crap we apparently don't want anymore, because it makes the global warming worse. I'm pretty sure that's what Gretta said, just before taking off from Paris in her private jet.  VD~ Steve

Raising the thread.

I ordered parts from MEACO to my HP40. Some gaskets and two veturis. Delivery time about one week to Finland. Service and communication was good, no hassles.

The engine is old vintage Hirtenberger HP40 R/C what I modify to CL. Two different size venturis fittings and tolerances was excellent.

Personally, I can recommend the store.

I just got a batch of parts to rebuild a K&B .40 (4011). Got them in a week, exactly as ordered. I probably have placed half a dozen orders over the years. The website is kind of built in layers but it works fine. I have found that if it says they have it, they probably do.

That has been my recent experience with MECOA as well.
