Sounds like the House of Balsa kit. Around $35 - $40
(Too many irons; not enough fire)

I have an older House of Balsa .40 size  P-51 Mustang R/C  kit that I bought back in the 70's. I don't have it in front of me but I beleive it's 48" wing span but it doesn't have a tinted canopy, it's clear. In this kit they show the P-51 in military dress and the Reno Racer "Candy Man". I still have the receit taped to the box and I beleive at the time this kit sold for around $50. The one your looking for might be from a differant manufacturer.

H.O.B. made 3 sizes of mustang, 2 of which are still available. The 1/2A at 36 inches and the 44 inch version for 15 to 20 sized motors.
You are probably thinking of the latter one.
