Friday Update:

I went out to Reeves field this afternoon to tie up a few loose ends prior to the contest.
Randy Dailey and his wife showed up, and we flew a couple of his combat ships. He flew a nemesis with a G-21 Super Tiger .35 which moved out pretty smartly. Then he flew a Zipper powered by a G-21 Rear Rotor .35 which really screamed. I am not familiar with the Super Tiger Rear Rotor .35; Randy says that they are pretty rare.

More importantly, Randy and his wife brought out enough pulled pork barbecue to feed us
for both days. Thanks, Randy!

As much as the old DOC planned on being there, I am going to have to bow out.  According to web cam looks like better weather there than here.  Gusty winds and rain showers. :(

Light turn-out with more spectators than competitors. It was windy. Finished early but there should have been a few cars still there. Trophies were handed out a little after 2. Some photos in a few hours or so.

We had a low turnout today; this was due to several factors, such as being a new contest,
advanced age of potential contestants, and the fact that the contest was held in flyover country. We are quite a ways from most people.

Top Speed Event: 3 entries. 7 laps, Flown 6 feet high, No whipping allowed

1. Randy Dailey    Zipper  -- Super Tiger  G-21 .35 Rear Rotor         113.06 mph
2. Bob Mears       Zipper  --  Super Tiger G-21 .35                           86.33  mph
3. Goldie Sisson   Nemesis --Super Tiger G-21 .35                           Attempt

We had 4 entries in Combat. I learned that you can spend a whole  lotta money on hopping up Super Tigers. (Ceramic Bearings, Ceramic coated cylinders with aluminum pistons, Etc. Etc.) Next year, we are changing the Combat event. The speed limit will be 75 mph, and you can use old single bypass engines; McCoys, Fox .35's Veco's , Enya's, OS engines, etc. etc. No Schneurle ported  engines will be allowed.

Places:
1. Allan Sisson   - Nemesis - Super Tiger G-21 .35
2. Robert Sisson - Nemesis - Super Tiger G-21 .35
3. Randy Dailey  - Zipper  -   Super Tiger G-21 .35
4. Bob Mears     -  Zipper  -   Super Tiger G-21 .35

I got out to Reeves Field on Sunday morning at 7 am, and no one else was there. I had a bad feeling that  few contestants would show. It was chilly and breezy. The Gluedobber members  showed up around 8 am, and right at 9 am the Combat flyers  showed up! We had 9 flyers who showed up to fly 75 mph combat!

Robert, Alan, and Goldie Sisson showed up flying Brodak ARF Ringmasters
($115.00 each) powered by Super Tiger G-21 .35's with metal tanks. They flew extremely well.

Most of the other flyers were flying Russian ARF's. ($60.00 each if bought in lots of 10, not including the metal motor mounts.) A few guys were flying Foamies.
We flew double elimination.  The CD was Arlene Pyles, who ran a tight efficient ship.

Other flyers in attendance were Bob Mears, Austin Minor, Andy Minor, Cary Minor, Rod Christie, and Jeff Johnson.

We had a noon meal of pulled pork, potato salad and beans donated by a friend of Randy Dailey.  Pat Reeves and Randy Daily's wife , Vicky heated up the fixin's.

Winners:
1.Cary Minor
2. Bob Mears
3. Jeff Johnson.

Most Fun Award- Goldie Sisson

Combat has more spectator appeal than Stunt.

Combat has always been a good spectator event.  In fact my Dad would watch only the combat events and would launch for me when he had to.  But rule changes put me out as well as the expense of it.

The 75 mph limit will make the event much more fun for all. At Combat Graffiti, we also found that we've all been spoiled by modern engines. Starting the old iron can be a challenge at times so now allow electric starters. ....old engines, old arms.

I haven't made one contest since the summer of 1969 (as a contestant) ... made a lot of them in the 1960's.  ...  We are getting older and slower, John.     y1     D>K

Back when I was flying R/C pattern. all the guys I flew with at the NATS would go watch combat after we had flown our one fight for the day. There were so many flying R/C pattern back in the early 80's that we only got one flight a day. Combat was our go to watch event. We were never disappointed. Lots of action. I have flown a few of them and had a Combat Cat back in the 60"s with a Fox 35 stunt that was fun. Never tried combat as far as flying competition, but it looks like fun for somebody with reflexes that still work. LOL

We received some suggestions regarding our Old Time Combat Reunion.

Some contestants want to move 75 mph Combat to Saturday, and make it triple elimination. They also want to move the Old Time Combat part of the contest to Sunday,
and make the Combat portion a 75  mph Combat. This would allow the use of more common (cheaper) old single bypass engines.

The Gluedobbers will look in to these suggestions.
