Ohlson and Rice screws!

Hello Everyone,
                      In a previous post, I was helped out, as to the type of screw threads that were commonly used in old ignition engines. I had a very helpful response, McMaster Carr were said to be the best supplier. Thought I would wait until I was in the US before ordering in bulk! Imagine my consternation when I tried to get 2 to 2.5 inch long 2-56 bolts (screws) and nuts, for a couple of Ohlson 60s.........couldn't even find any 2-56 screws in the online catalogue. Is it just me or don't they stock 2-56 nuts and bolts? If not, is there anyone else that does?

Hi Leester!
               Just looked at Microfastners, longest 2-56 screw that they do is 1.5 inches long. Can anyone tell me offhand if the O&R 60 does have 2-56 screws holding the crankshaft assembly to the cylinder assembly?

I dont have one here to look at but I think that they are 4-40's

Andrew...If you have the old screws, measure the major diameter. They should be about .112" diameter if they're 4-40's, which I think is likely. If you don't have any correct screws, then measure the holes they go through. The holes should be around .120" or 3mm. If the holes are bigger, (.135"?), then maybe you could get 3mm screws to use? And if length is a problem, just put an elastic lock nut on each end of a piece of "all-thread".  Steve

                   The O&Rs are back in the UK so I can't check the thread or hole sizes. I am sure that the O&R 19 and 23s are 2-56 but I have this sneeking feeling that the O&R60 may have bigger bolts!
  Serves me right, I should have checked before I left home! I am sure someone will put me right!

Contact Morrie Lavinthal via lsanmo (at) aol (dot) com. He offered a "new" reproduction O&R .60 a couple of years ago and probably has some screws left over.  My recollection is that the screws you seek are actually Filister-head 4-40's not 2-56's, but I could be wrong.

Andrew.  I have three O&R 60 here.  The stock screws are 4-40 X 2".  Not sure just where you are now.  If in the US, these are easy to find at specialty "fastener" stores.  If you are really stuck, let me know and I'll get some for you.

Andrew, I think you want 4-40s, here is a link. Pick machine screws and then filister head and then just go on down the page, they're there.  They do have 2-56s but only up to 1"
