Filling Weave with Deft Clear Wood Finish, Lacquer?

Deft Clear Wood Finish

I've used this product for balsa sheeted surfaces only, not open bays. I did a small test and the stuff is flexible not brittle at all.

Has anyone ever used "Deft Clear Wood Finish, Lacquer" to fill weave in silk or silkspan on an entire model?

I have tried it to fill silkspan on a stab.  I used red dope over it and it appeared to be ok.  The first time out in the sun it bubbled up. The lower surface of the stab is fine but the upper surface reacts with sunlight.

Sounds like it's out gassing in the heat and forming bubbles between the two substances.  NOT GOOD!

Very likely weak adhesion between the two surfaces also!

And there was a good deal of time between coats (several weeks) and between final coat and first flight.

Guys, Thanks for the quick replies.

I think Randy is correct on the gas out.

Now I'm thinking about it's use on solid balsa under primer, paint then clear?

I know I've read that some modelers have used it along with Minwax under primer, paint and clear.

Unless I'm thinking about something else?

Anyway, I'll use dope on the open bays just to be sure.

Ed,

I have also, and I have used it to apply silk on wood, finishing with Minwax.

I just did the gear struts for the gee Bee R3 using Deft. You can build layers and it sands well.

I buy it and other brands at Home Depot or Lowes,cost around &10 quart.
