No Eugene after all -- anything later this year?
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:44:05 AM »
My dog had a medical emergency.  He went into the doggie emergency room last night (why can't these things ever happen when the cheap vet is open?).  So I'll need to be on hand here Saturday, either picking him up or taking care of him.

To all of you who have offered me help this weekend -- thanks, and I'll catch you later!

Are there any good events later in the year that I can plan on?  Eugene is at about the limit of my travel radius; McMinnville is better, and Delta park is probably the best I could hope for.  The world needs more CL clubs.

I just got the wood from Lone Star for my semi-scale Waiex, so I'll hopefully have a more rugged and easier to fix plane soon (maybe I'll just be honest with myself and make two airframes).  If I have to be on the property Saturday (which is likely) I'll be starting to cut wood.  (see here for more detail: http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=17304.0).

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Hmmm, I think there's a contest in August (used to be in McMinnville, now in ---Eugene?). The Fall Follies in Salem in October. Of course there are two contests in Washington, one in June the other in September. And the Canuck contest the end of July in Vancouver, BC, but these are probably too far. Also, I hope, the Golden State contest in California in October. (all I can think of off hand). Sorry you won't make it, Tim, I also was looking forward to meeting you.

Puyallup really isn't any farther for me than Eugene -- we'll see.  Fortunately they stapled the dog's stomach to his abdominal wall so he won't have another torsion -- but that doesn't mean that some other disaster will befall to pet, person or property.

Well, probably not with a bent piece of wire.  Some breeds are prone to torsions, where their stomachs literally rotate off of position, pinching off their esophagus and small intestines.  It's bad bad bad -- fatal if not caught, major abdominal surgery even so.

So while the doc's in there, they stitch part of the stomach to the abdominal wall, to keep things in place.  Sort of an after-crash reenforcement, if you will.

Yeah, that gastric torsion is an emergency all right; it's deadly serious, in fact.  What breed is your dog?  Some breeds are more susceptible to it than others...German Shepherds in particular.  Best of luck to your dog.

He's a standard poodle -- frou frou dog on the outside, Archy Bunker on the inside.  He's doing about as well as can be expected; hopefully I'll be taking him home late Friday or early Saturday, but that depends on how the recovery goes.

I asked JT to attach the flyer to the "Where the action is" list of contests. Thanks for letting me know it wasn't posted.

Hi, I really hope your dog is doing well. I'll have my pooch in the pickup at the regional, so I'll be giving doggy walks from time to time. You get really attached to the darn things.

He is.  Barring the unforseen we'll be taking him home today, and keeping a close eye on him tomorrow.  I'll probably be able to nip out to the club field (which is only 15 minutes away, lucky me) for a bit in the morning, but not out to Eugene.

And yes, it's just like another family member, except they're not covered by the exorbitant health plans, and the surgery bill has a zero missing.  I think if I get really sick I'm going to my vet for care.

From what I have seen he may be better qualified.  Hope the pooch gets well.  I know the feeling when a pet is not up to par. H^^
