Niagara Falls ON - Limted Stunt Contest & pattern
« on: July 06, 2016, 11:55:45 AM »
We will be hosting a Scale and Limited Stunt
contest at the Niagara Falls circle, July 23 .

What is "Limited Stunt" you ask?
The Balsa Beavers have five or six members who
are at the Loops (maybe) and Wing Over stage of the
learning curve but we didn't have any events that
they could enter even though they help at contests.
So in Sept. of 2014 we invented "Limited Stunt".

We didn't want to call it "Beginner Stunt" since
that implies the much more difficult pattern that
includes outside loops, inside squares and overhead
eights. We think that's a lot to expect of real beginners.

Also among the entrants were lifelong scale modelers
who definitely aren't beginners.

   The schedule is,

- Take Off

- Level Flight

- Climb & Dive

- Wing Over

- Three Loops (All together or with one lap between loops)

- Optional Maneuver

- Landing

The attachment shows the judging criteria.

Flyers are made aware that level flight might
sound easy but those laps had better look
LEVEL!

Our first contest was great fun, so we're doing it
again, but we've added an "Optional Maneuver"
so that entrants can show their progress.

Please see the attachment for the score sheet,

Or go to BalsaBeavers.ca for information and directions.

Everyone is welcome at Niagara Falls ( AMA or MAAC required)
or if you have some suggestions, we'd like to hear them.

Cheers! - Keith Morgan

Thanks for sharing, Keith!  Our club is a combo of RC flyers (majority) and control line stunt.  A bunch of the RC guys joined us for the Ringmaster fly-a-thon last October and flew CL for the first time in 30 or more.  As a result some got fired up and built some CL planes (Flite Streaks, etc.) but their flying skills are not up to the beginner pattern. Your event may get them interested in joining us come contest time.

Hello Jerry!
                You were missed
at Brodak's this year.
I know it's a very long drive
from Colorado.
Oh well, at least you missed the cicadas.  y1

If it takes someone three or four years
to learn the full beginners pattern, are
they still beginners?

Cheers! - K.

Interesting idea.  Just so people understand, though, there's absolutely nothing to keep you from entering Beginner and only flying what you can.  As long as you can do a wingover, you can put in an official flight and get points for it.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Tim,
       You are correct of course.
It's possible to enter Beginner with a
very small repertoire.
I'm not criticizing the Beginner event,
I know it has it's purposes, but I don't
know any real beginners who could fly it.

I think the Beginner Schedule is designed
for flyers who are working to learn the
full pattern. Many flyers aren't that
ambitious and get left out of the fun
of contests.

When I suggest to a newer flyer
that they enter a contest, nine times
out of ten they say ,
" I'm not ready for that yet."

Hopefully they are ready for this event.

Cheers! - K.

Looks like you're having fun. If you enable viewing on a embedded viewer it still counts for you video count.

We were sorry that you missed the T&D too Dwayne.
Having the "Eastern" guys show up makes it more of
a contest.
Hope to see you next year or maybe at the Beanfield
in August.

Cheers! - K.
