Newest 25 year old Twister in the world.
« on: February 25, 2006, 11:53:30 PM »
Here is a picture of my recently completed Twister right before its first flights.  OS LA 40, Tom Morris ball link control system, adjustable leadouts, adjustable tip weight, 30 year old solarfilm on the wings, sig dope.

Flew at Buder Park to get ready for the Ice-O-Lated contest tomorrow.

Lots of advice and help at the field today from: Mike Schmitt, Crist Rigotti (thanks for the glo-plug), Dennis Vanderkuur, Gary Hajek (thanks for the fuel), Bill Marvel, Steve Moore, and a few others who I cannot remember their names (sorry).  Getting it trimmed out and figuring out how to get a better engine run out of the LA 40.  Mike kept making me fly it again after changing one thing at a time.

Gonna enter it tomorrow at Ice-O-Lated.  Hope I don't get that Black Feather award.  I will be wearing my Stunt Hangar t-shirt if Bob brings it out.

I am sorry to say I will not be able to make it to the Ice-O-Lated tomorrow.  I had hernia surgery on Wednesday and will spend the weekend hopped up on pain killers (is that TMI).

I hope that everyone has a good time.  Make sure to give us a report as soon as the festivities are over.

Good luck with your new Twister!!!!!!!!!

Well I flew it today at Ice-O-Lated and did not crash so no Black Feather.

I entered Intermediate 'cause I though I could complete the pattern - silly me!  Ran too short and engine died in the Vertical 8 on first flight and in the Overhead 8 on the second flight.  Scored a whopping 300 points!

But guess what?  That was good enough for 1st place!  Know why?  I was the only entrant in Intermediate!

Once I get the engine run duration figured out though.....watch out!

I did volunteer and got to judge Advanced and P-40.  I think I was more generous with the points than the other judges though - everyone looked great to me!  I guess I gotta learn to be more picky!

It was a fun contest, weather cooperated and gave us enough heat to not freeze and little winds - although a little shifty and higher later in the day.

Bob will get the scores posted soon.

Steve,
Nice looking plane. I must say that you hung in there working on your Twister in the cold and wind on Saturday. The Twisted seemed to get better with every flight. It sure works better getting a new bird sorted out if you have a few helping hands. That's one of the things I've enjoyed most about getting back into control line a few years back. Enjoy your new bird  :).

I saw where you posted you may have been to generous with points judging advanced, on behalf of those of us flying advanced I say very much appreciated (I was flying the weathered Shark 45 with the shark pilot).

As long as a person is consistent, it doesn't matter how generous he is with points.  Now he needs to pull up the pattern and the descriptions of the maneuvers.  Then sit down and read.  When done, re-read.  I can never thank the judges enough for the time they spend with a clip board in their hand.  I have judged in the past and need to judge more.  It is amazing how much you can learn and how many mistakes the so called experts make.  Thanks for judging,  DOC Holliday
