This is our new PT-19 CL 35 sized ARF from Hangar 9. It is designed to make it easier for us all to invite our RC friends to try their hand again at CL! Available with or without the engine and both versions include a wood handle and set of lines. It takes about one evenings work to get it ready to fly and then they can bring their RC fuel and ignitors to the field and have a ball with the new airplane.

It seems to me, that if you are introducing a trainer, the next logical step is to introduce a step up(flapped pattern ship?) Just my two cents worth.

THANKS for your support activily for this hobby, IMO great thinking on offering a COMPLETE package, all they need is fuel and ignitor, makes it pretty simple and inviting, one stop shopping. Keep up the great work!

It looks like it would be a fun plane to have and to fly just for sport, and perhaps even P-40 Intermediate Class.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Continued success always gives us the impetus for more designs. Just keep your eyes open and encourage your RC friends to try their hand (pun intended) at CL again

The three bladed prop is our training prop for our 40 size RC airplanes. it is a 10-1/2 x 4-1/2 prop that controls airspeed pretty well. It is a pretty good match for this airplane and the engine in the training, I don't want to spin too fast mode. It will be inlcuded with the HAN0115 ARF w/engine version. We are expecting the first shipment at the endo of October/early November timeframe.

Please consider including a safety thong. One of your pictures has the pilot flying with the thong just hanging there.

I am not a fan of wing mounted gear.

What prop is that?

We do include a safety thong in the kits. I'll have the picture pulled with the dangling thong .. we don't want to promote anything dangerous.

That looks awesome Pete! A great deal at $200. If the quality
is anywhere near (which I'm sure it will be) the Hangar 9 RC ARFs
then this will be a winner. I've flown several Hangar 9 RC ARFs
and they are top notch, great quality items. Can't wait to see
one of these at the field.

Pete, Very nice! Now this is how I believe an ARF should be presented. It is an ARF, correct? If not and is already assembled then that is even better. The fact that lines and handle are included is a big bonus and should go far in making it easier for the guys wanting to get in the air quicker.

Most know that I am not a big proponent of ARFS' or ARCS' but that is only because of the BOM rule and the appearance point problem. So long as no appearance points are given for them then I am ok with the concept.

I like the wing gear and I am glad you stayed with them just for the scale appearance. I am impressed with the tip weight box and what looks like adjustable leadouts. Those are items that should have been on all the other ones out there. Good job.

Past experience has shown that the controls on all the other offerings needed major help to last more than 1-2 flights before failing. Hopefully you have taken care of that problem as it will definitely help to sell more models.

Besides the PT19 is one of my favorite planes and your looks really good!

I noticed a hatch under the inboard wing. Is that access to the BC linkage? The pushrod and elevator horn looks pretty substantial.How are the leadouts attached- crimped or swaged?

This is fantastic! Its gonna be perfect to get people back in the circle! 3 Months ago, I was the only one C/L flying at my field. Theres now 3 of us, and I expect 1/2 dozen by years end. With the PT-19, I can see those numbers are gonna jump!

Horizon Hobby doing anything CL is good. Great in fact. This bodes well for the future of the hobby.

I agree with Bob Whitely, it think it would be be awesome to make it an RTF. I wanted to do an RTF soooooooo bad, but it just never happened.

BTW, is this covered in Ultracote?

Pete - my 2 cents

Looks great, wingtip weight box, adj leadouts, push rod and elevator horn look sturdy, all this tells me you guys did some listening / thinking about this project. the sprung tail wheel is a nice touch.

On the minus side- crimped leadouts- on the wintip end not too big a deal-easy to inspect and stay on top of.
If the same is true at the bellcrank, and you have the bare cable running through an aluminium bellcrank with crimps to secure - well lets just say be ready for some feedback on that issue.

Wing mounted gear- looks great and should make for good ground handling - but beginners and retreads tend to have a high number of full speed - pancake type impacts with the ground. If the gear gets torn out and destroys the wing- you just lost a customer.
Most ARF type R/C fliers would be challenged to rebuild a wing that had landing gear attach blocks and support ribs torn out.
Maybe you can include a fuselage mounted wire set that would use the same wheels, with a note or addendum to the instruction for installing it for " Severe duty training option". They can always install the wing mounted units at a later date after they " get a handle on things! ".

The complete package with engine, tank, lines and handle for the price shown on the web page is an excellent deal - I can see one sitting under my Christmas Tree this year.

I think it's just what the doctor ordered.. Looks like even though the leadouts are crimped they are ran through the ferule twice which will make them good enough for it's intended audience. Same with the clevis, would like to see a Sullivan Gold and am hoping the one supplied is better than what we have seen so far but it should be fine.

We are seeing an increased interest from the local RC club and this is a fantastic offering.. Looking forward to seeing one in person. Hope it's successful enough to keep in the line..

Pete I just went to the Hobby Shop and ordered one just on the Looks , I will be the 1st in N.Y. to have one. I will power with a LA 40 as my Evo will not hold a setting .

For those like me who already have the engine ( EVO .36 or other) - the option of ordering the airframe only would be attractive.

This is the start of my PT 19 repair , made a new 1/2 " balsa fuse kept everything else the same . One comment it looks great in the air , but don't land it hard.

Well I got to fly Neil's "improved " PT 17 today and must say that for a non-flapped profile I was impressed. It turned well even though he had to add allot of nose weight to it to reduce it's sensitivity. He had a narrow spaced handle on it also. I am sure some of the nose weight added was cause he rebuilt the fuse using standard 1/2" balsa. I also had a perfect engine run (as perfect as you can get for gas powered) and it did take a few laps for me to reacquaint myself with the natural vibration of a fuel powered motor. Like I told Neil today,that plane is a perfect candidate to convert to electric. Balance would no longer be an issue because you would be able to move the battery forward and back to get it perfect. The only downside of this whole plane was that with no flaps and a thin airfoil It doesn't glide very far after the engine cuts. Overall its a very nice flying ARF!!

Alright, thinner airfoil than the SV 11 and Strega's I'm used to flying. I think it was more the lack of flaps anyway that contributed to the shorter glide than I am used to. I'll take the hit and admit my mistake on that, It was a bit cool out and, It was the first time I had seen one so maybye I looked too fast at it.
