New plane suggestions wanted
« on: May 05, 2006, 01:49:48 PM »
What's everyone's opinion for a double duty plane that will be competitive in both Classic and PAMPA Expert classes?

My basic constraint is that I perfer a .40 size motor but an ST 51 is also a possiblity.

Thanks!

Hi Stan

You might also want to  consider Windy's Cardinal Evolution.  Read about it on his web site under the plans section.  It has a 53" wing span and he claims it is designed for a .40 size engine.  I currently have one under construction and have learned some planes require an experienced builder and I needed to consult one for several issues.  That said, I think it will be a star to fly.

Stan,

The Big Silhavy Gypsy would be a very good match for a ST .51 and is legal as a double duty airplane.   ;D ;D

Profile Oriental will cover Classic, P-40, and do the pattern quite nicely.

I am building one now.  Will be using a L&J Fox 35, but  have a D-Star 40 as a backup engines as well.

Hey Jay!! How's the healing going?

I think I'd want to get plans for a Jack Shieks twin boomer.

Jay,

The Oriental is a great flier. I'm currently flying a full body Oriental powered by a Brodak .40. That's what got me my first 500+ scores.

I might suggest the Cobra or Ares. My cobra is certainly capable in open PA.

I know it might sound self serving, but I have not found an airplane better that the JD Falcon.  It turns great, and stops on a dime, It goes where you point it.. can't ask for more. This is a great multi purpose stunter. I am sure that Richard Oliver agrees.

The only draw back of using a Classic airplane in Pampa events is the psycological factor with judges.. Yes it does exist. Unfortunately.

Thanks for everyone's ideas.  Many great choices here.

Now I just need to decide which one to build.

I ahve used many of the planes mentioned.  My vote does to the USA-1 with a good ST G-51.
It has the "presentation" that Tom N. seems to be alluding to concerning Classic planes.

Nothing against the others, but my USA-1 might have been the best overall stunt plane I have had so far.  It definitely flies with the other "big boys". :)
