New kit
« on: November 08, 2009, 11:17:55 PM »
Ordered a magician kit from Brodak on thusday and arrived on saturday. Those guy's are great! Was checking things out today, and saw the ribs have holes for a jig. I have a great planes wing jig, would that work ok, or just build as the inst. book says. any thoughts? thanks, Jack

Jack, i dug out my plans from the Brodak kit. I made no changes at all and built the wing on my table with no jig, i am sure you could use the jig. I put the leadouts exactly where the plans call and used a 1/2 oz. weight on the wingtip. Nothing adjustable, .25la for power , hayes 3 oz. tank on muffler pressure. Flies great right off the board. Great kit and plans. Good luck and post some pics.  Ray

Same as mine it seems.  Built per the instructions/plans.  Brodak covering, tank and engine.  Flies great, but grandson now claims the plane.

I am finishing one right now. OS .25 LA 3 oz clunk tank on pressure and Ultracoat covering. Mine is balancing on the leading edge now, is that where you flew yours or should I add tail weight?

Don, is that with the engine, muffler and tank mounted? If it is that seems odd, mine balances about 1 3/4 inches back of the leading edge. I would say try it first then add tailweight if needed. I have tried to guess cg before by rubberbanding the motor in place and such and after i actually bolted everything on it was different.

I just bolted the engine with muffler and tank on it this mourning. I still have to add the rear push rod and horn but other than that it is finished. I built is as per the plans with all the factory wood. Oh I did add a tail wheel instead of the skid.

Don,

I'd love to see your new Magician. Are you going to bring it to Delta Park tomorrow?

Thanks for the input. I've been reading the instructions and looking at the plans. Was already thinking about adj. leadouts, weight box. All those things to make it the "best" it could be. You know, those flaps look like they could made coupled, but maybe just build it like it was designed.  os 25 w/ 3oz brodak tank. Will have to work at posting pictures. Thanks again, Jack

I do not think the flaps will help that much.  In fact it will build quicker and have one less item to adjust.
