new kit bashed Vector 40--pix
« on: August 11, 2010, 02:34:18 PM »
My Vector 40 doesn't look much like the picture on the kit box, but it's kind of cool the way it turned out.
I still need to put clear on top of it and I'm just waiting for the humidity to drop.
As it sits---no prop. no muffler it weighs 41 oz. I'm guessing it'll be about 45 oz. when it is RTF.
I have an Aero Tiger .36 in it for power.
It should be a good flyer.

Amazing what one can do with a little imagination!  I've never built a kit or from plans exactly as intended.  Always some thing I don't like about it which must be changed.

Looks just great Frank.  I have really been looking forward to this one since you posted the pix in bones.  The weight an power selections are great too.  Gonna be a good one for ya!

Thankyou everyone for the words of encouragement.
Ray--the SkyWriter is I believe underway. I gave the kit and the electric stuff to John Paris because I knew I'd never be able to get it all done before the end of summer. n1
I've been looking at the Dil-Bod but it will be late in the season before it gets painted.
For now I'm getting the LA WARMTH ready for paint.

it WAS a vector 40.......

the wing and moments etc are all vector - just shaped like a T-38 Talon......it actually flew better than the vetors I was flying at the same time - I have a suspicion it was the lower stab position that made it so.

That's cool Wynn....................I built mine in the style that I really liked as a kid....still do. I figure that if I start off with a good airframe the tips, rudder and canopy will give me the look I want and the frame will give me the performance.
I like what you did with your mo0del.

I like it.  I still have the Vector 40 ARC in the box.  At least I think it is in the box.  Every time I pick up the box I open it to make sure it is so light.  Well I will make up for it when I try to make it look as nice as yours.   Great looking model. H^^

Sneaking in isn't a problem, it's finding a place to hide it.  I have 5 kits stuffed behind my suits in my closet, 6 engines in the sweater rack, Exacto knives in the vegetable crisper and wing and fuselage jigs with the Christmas stuff. HB~>

In all fairness, my wife wouldn't give me any grief about my stash.  She is glad that I am returning to the hobby because it makes me happy.  The rub is, she is a collector of antiques (old junk) and I am always reminding her that we don't have any more room.  I am SO bad! >:D

They might be by the time I get around to building them.  The hang-up is getting a work area set aside. We are slowly going through years and years of accumulated stuff.  Lots of memories to deal with.  I have cartons of my father's personal effects after his death in 1989.  Here it is, 21 years later and I am just now going through them.  Even this many years later, it is still tough...  Once cleaned out, I have a corner of our basement earmarked for building.  As yet, I can't even reach it!  Like I said, years and years of "treasures" to deal with.

OK, John...can you measure the Vector carton for me? H^^

I think Ray sent a Cox Black Widow for the Dil-Bod. The engine was in a baggie when I got the model and he is good at mixing and matching 1/2A engine parts, but I think it's a Black Widow.

Will see if I can get to it.  Been busy putting Fox .46 on my Shameless.  Also I can understand about the loss of relatives.  My wife's Mother's room is almost like it was when she passed away a few years ago.  She was my answering service when she was alive.

Hi Doc,

How does the Shameless fly?  We had one but I never got to fly it......... Aaron put her in way too soon.  It was the one Tood Lee did for FM as a review and afterwards gave it to Aaron for a practice plane.  It is the only *large* profile we have had.  Couldn't rebuild it, but I have thought about scratch building one.

Mine only needs a good pilot.  Dave now has the ribs on the plans.  In fact a set went to UK area last year.  In my opinion it is a great flying plane.   H^^

I have put a couple of flights on a Profile Shameless a while back here in Socal. I believe the plane was from a Trimble kit. Plane flew very good. Good groove. Very easy to place. Slap a a 50 on it, and hang it out on the end of some long lines, and you are going to take care of business.

Dave, when I was first getting into stunt I did so because I loved the planes. For the last couple years I've been building the models I loved way back when. The twins and all the other stuff I've built were just side trips.
I have a 1/2A Fierce Arrow ready to cover. I also have an RSM big Fierce Arrow.Once those are built I'll have an example of each of the planes I've always wanted. Now I just have to keep them out of the dirt.

Okay, you made me do it.  Pulled the box off the cabinets I have on the shop wall.  Was not in the kit stash as the box is big.  Depth - 6 inches.  Width - 12 inches.  Length - 52 1/4 inches.  Weight - 5 pounds 1.4 ounces.  Hope you can convince her it is a collectable. LL~ LL~ LL~
