Strong earthquake
« on: August 09, 2020, 08:46:16 AM »
Had strong earthquake here at 8:11 this morning. Locust NC about 90 miles from center. This one lasted 30 seconds and was very loud. Been through a lot of smaller ones but never anything like this one. I am on 3rd floor so that makes it seem worse than ground floor..   thought Rebecca was shaking the bed for me to get up. Ha

5.1 for east coast is strong.     What surprised me was how loud it was ,like a jet 100 feet over your house but it lasted for 30 seconds

I was in the basement of a building in Feb 2001 I think it was & it sounded , felt like some dummy ran into the building with a bulldozer.... shook my  brain loose .

I live in Sophia NC about 100 miles from Sparta. I was in bed and felt it just a quiver that went from my head to my toes. It didn't feel like an earthquake so I didn't think much about it until I heard the news. I lived in SoCal for years and tremors were a common thing.

I remember back in Oct or Nov of 1968 laying in the hospital bed with leg elevated while the doctors were trying to decide if they could save my leg or not.  A lad I road with on motorcycles was visiting.  The bed started moving and I accused him of shaking the bed.  He wasn't even touching the bed and looked at me with alarm.   Later we heard the news of a tremor over in the bootheel of Missouri.   Never thought it could be felt that far away as I was in Kansas City KS hospital.
