New Chevelle takes wing.
« on: April 11, 2009, 08:05:12 PM »
Made the first two flights on my new Chevelle today. I love the sound of that Stalker 61RE. Best exhaust note of any 2-stroke I've ever heard.
Got the needle close on the 2nd flight, but not quite there. Smooth and stable, now the trimming starts. John Sunderland tells me this is the first one he knows of that's been built since the construction article appeared in FlyingModels March'98.

Well, look at that...

John's design has classic appeal.  That is so cool!!!

PS:  Tell us more about the Stalker.

Well, not sure what youre looking for.  Nothing special about it,  I just like the sound, deep and throaty.  To me it sounds better than a 4stroke.    It's box stock, rear exhaust muffler, running it on Sig FAI Champion.   On bench it was spinning a Zinger Pro at 8000,  ran 3:15 on 2oz of the FAI.  Made first flights with Stalker c/f 3-blade 12-6, didnt check RPM, because I was being cautious on the rich side.  2nd flight it was just sneaking up on a 4-2 break.  Power seems on par with a Tiger 60.  Smooth runner..

Hi Alan,

Just beeeautiful!  One of my favorite all time classic styled stunters.  I think it has something to do with the open cockpit look which distinguishes it from so many generally similar ships of that vintage.  Lovely color scheme.

Jack Sunderland gets all the credit for the trim scheme.  Mine is just a slight variation of his original.

Didn't John's Super Sport version of the Chevelle win Nat's Advanced around 1999-2000 timeframe?

Really Nice - this plane has been on my "Must Build" list for some time and was a big influence in the styling of my kit-bashed Vector Sport.
