Never tried to post pictures of a new build before. The "Ringmaster 1000" is being built. I don't build fast like others, I just pick away till it's done. I'm in no rush. This is where it is at right now.

Steve, here it is still jigged up. The LE and TE are not solid they are built up construction.

Steve;

We had a drop in control system made for us by "Jim Snelson" at C/L Central. It consists of a BCA-4 3/16 X 4" Bellcrank (Phenolic). The pushrod is 3/16 Carbon Fiber with a "Ball Link" at the Bell Crank, and "Ringmaster" type bent wire at the horn. Lead Outs are .036 Cable. Some of it may seem small, like the Push Rod, but believe me, it won't flex.

This"Big Boy" also sports a home made set of adjustable leadouts, made by myself.

Tom, don't say it, after that flood we had nothing is where it is supposed to be. I am still looking.

Good news, just got back from the Post Office. We weighed it at all 5 stations and they were all the same. It is definately not overweight. The wing comes in at:

18.37 ozs.

Looks great Bill. Your jig looks similar to what I use for rods. I brought the post back so you could check it out if you want to.

Both you "Bills" are making this Bill felt embarassed! Looks like I will have to finally break down and make a jig for my rods/tubes, too. So far I have just used a temporary set up made each time I used them.

Y'alls both look great!

While I would rather build in a Lost Foam set up, there are laser ribs that require the rods, so I do use them every now and then. That is, when I ain't building an I-Beam plane! LOL!!

One of these "Bad Boys" is gonna power that "Ringmaster 1000". The "Red Head" is a Fox .78 Dual Plug--circa 1971. The other is also a Fox .78 Single Plug-- circa 1981. The 1981 is already changed to C/L. the "Red Head" is waiting for her venturi. That is the only modification that needs to be done to these "Big Blocks" to change them over. Yes the engine in the center back is a Fox .59 2-Speed. The one in the back on the left is a Fox .40 Rat Race. The extreme right back is a 1958 Fox .15 "Steel Fin"

Billy-G...how much does the CL Fox .78 weigh? I was thinking that shortening the stroke to get it under .76 cu.in. limit for .018's might make it a bargain big block. It would be pretty easy to do, by cutting off the stock crank pin and poking a hole for a new pressed-in crank pin. A dowel pin should do.

Keep the weight down on that Mega Ringmaster, or it'll pull your arm off!

Weight 18 ozs.

The "Ringmaster 1000" all up weight is now targeted at 60-65 ozs. Should be no worse than a .60 powered ship.

You are probably aware of this buuuuuuut if you decide to destroke one of these"Bad Boys" make absolutely sure there are big enough oil holes in the connecting rod. I would suggest two 45* apart. Make them bigger if you are unsure. Also I have been told that some of the .78's had needle bearings in the lower end of the connecting rod. If this is true ( don't quote me here) you will need a new rod to work with. Please let me know what the results are if you try to pull this off. I don't like going to .021 lines either, although I don't think there will be any real noticeable "Drag" problems.

WOW---Long time my friend. Welcome back. Yes and no, the parts that are built up are: Wing, Stab., Elevator, Fuselage, Leading Edge and Trailing edge. By built up Fuselage I mean it is a built up "Profile". A full bodied "Super Ringmaster" is not out of the question at a later time.

Nice job Billy, It definatly looks like a ringmaster. It also does not look that big after it is put togather. I suspect you will need a few lead wieghts in your pocket to fly this. I can't fly it because the leadouts are coming out the wrong side an I asume this is because you don't want me to test fly this thang. I wish I could be there for first flights. Leo

Hey Leo, a little secret, just have him launch it inverted. Watch Lew Woolard(aka Silverfox) fly sometime. Even tho the the plane is upright, the handle is backward to me. Have fun, DOC Holliday

Thanks for the thought but I don't think I will need them, got anything to put on weight in a hurry? Landing gear and finish sanding to final shape. Assemble and cover. And finally on to the paint finish, looks like about two more weeks and it takes to the air.

I have been using an 8 oz. Hayes Clunk to break it in. It swallows that 8 ozs. in 7.6 minutes. Soooooo you want to fly the pattern you will need at least 8.5 ozs. It won't be economical to say the least. Now its big sister, which hasn't been put on paper yet is a whole new "Ball Game". Don't ask.

Yes, I have created a large "Ringmaster 1000", but that is all. There will be two more "Ringmaster" offshoots built by me before the next "Ringmaster Round-Up",one larger,and one the same size. One is a twin, the other let's just say will be awesome. This is my only claim to fame in the "Brotherhood". I am not worthy of any title such as you are suggesting. Again Thank-You for the thought. Hey Bill, that 7.6 minutes is pushing the pattern a bit, isn't it? The book says 8 minutes max from the time you signal until the plane comes to a stop. I have timed many a pattern with about 10 laps extra coming out on an average for me at 6 minutes, give ar take a few seconds. Well anyway with something that big I guess I would allow you 10 minutes. Have fun, DOC Holliday

Hi G-Man,

For time, if you are flying the pattern, you are fine with the 8 oz. tank. Like Doc, I don't like to go much over 6:30 stop watch time, and that's from the hand signal. I got a funny feeling that we *might* get a rules proposal in the not too distant future to adopt the FAI 7 min. max time from signal to wheels stopping. I would be for it!
