Netezband DoodleBug Plans
« on: May 08, 2012, 03:47:42 PM »
With all due respect to Bill and the possible royalties he may receive from Flyhig Models magazine, I have been trying for two months to get a set of the .35-.40 size Doodlegug from them with no luck. Ordered the plans, cc was charged, called a month later and was told they were on the way, waited another month and realized they must have the worst customer service on the planet. If anybody has a copy I would be happy to pay them for the cost of copying and shipping.

I haven't announced this yet (I guess till now) but John Lowry is in the process
of transferring the Doodlebug series over to me.

We'll be starting with the .25 size.

I don't have anything ready to sell / offer yet and this reply is NOT intended as an
announcement, so I hope this is NOT taken as a sales post and moved on you.
Thank you and God Bless

Bill passed away early in 2010 from heart problems. I doubt that he received much in royalties. He was a very generous and kindly guy.

If and when Walter puts out this kit, take my advice and buy one.  I scratch built two of them and they are a blast to fly.  I had a small one that I put a  Norvell .61 on and it was like flying a bat on crack...Dan Banjok would have been proud of it..... ;D ;D ;D

I think I got one of the last of John's Doodle Bug kits.   Have Fox .40 for power and looks kind of strange on the end of the lines.   It is fun to fly tho.  As stated if/or/when Walter does decide to kit it, you better get on the list.   Guess I had better take a picture and post it. H^^

Well finally I got off my duff and got pictures taken.  My bad tho as that is an OS FS .40 on the nose.  All Monokote covering and graphics.  Weighs a ton.  The last shot is what you see while flying it. H^^

On this design are the engine, wing, and stab on the same thrust line ?

Now I dont pretend to know more about c/l design than the "Master",
but with such a wide stab I would have used a twin boom setup.

I don't have the file for the larger one yet but on the 25-35 size they are all inline

I built one form FM plans and one of Lowery's (the flapped version). Both had OS H40s for power. The built-from-plans job was flown to death. Oil sogged, bellcrank pulling, it was retired & canobalized. The Lowery flapper is still going strong despite LusterKote disappearing.
Your are right they (both plan & Lowery) do tend to come out a little "porkulent."
I did build another from the plans and used a Saito 56. SUPER NOSE heavy! Wonderful for flying in a hurricane and always makes wide sweeping maneuvers! Its a hanger queen taken out on windy days.

I just dug out my plans and the templates I made....... will build another for an OS H40s and will cut the nose length one inch.

Well I got mine back in the air Saturday(5-12-12).   The OS started up like a champ and I forgot that it likes to fly on 65 foot lines.   But, it handled great on the 60's.   Started sprinkling as I was landing.    H^^
