National Balsa - Aero Light Bundle

Just for Information, National Balsa had a bundle sale on their Aero Light balsa and I ordered 25 sheets of 1/16 x 4 x 36.  Of the 25 sheets I received, 12 were between 4.2 and 4.8 lbs, 8 were between 5.1 and 5.9 lbs, and 5 were between 6.1 and 6.3 lbs.  All are usable. Very pleased.

Similar experience here....very happy with their 1/16 contest grade stuff. Glad it was on sale! This was their second "bundle" sale in as many months.....hope they can continue!

I should think not!  Over here in England, a general hobby chain called 'Hobbycraft' is selling 1/2 x 3 X 36 (quite decent quality - about 8lb./cu.ft) for £10.00 - about $12.

I have some 4 and 5 pound wood and it is very weak and flimsy and has limited places to use on  a plane,if not real carefull its easy to break like on wing sheeting ....like bob says 7 or 8 pound 3/32  7 or 8 pound wood  could be used for fuse sides instead of 1/8 inch soft 5 or 6 pound wood... just my opinion

I saw that too Ken.  That has to be a pricing error.  Nobody in their right mind would pay that.

I've had pretty good luck with Balsa USA lately.  You can choose 'hand picked soft' for a little higher price (they don't call out wood weight by the pound) and the wood I've gotten is under 6 lb for sure.  I ordered enough for a couple airplanes ($250) and the shipping was free-no small deal these days.  To those of us who have been around this stuff for a while that seems like a lot of money but compared to everything else I guess it's fair.  You are just not going to put a competitive airplane in the air these days for much under $1000-$1200 all told.   My next door neighbor sticks a new Camaro in his garage every three or four years,  the next guy it's a motorcycle or two,  or golf...........the days of mowing lawns to buy airplane stuff are over.....
