   The result was as it should have been! Truax pretty much dominated the whole season, and if under a normal format would have wrapped up the championship weeks ago. I don't like this segmented race and "play off" format stuff. Truax drove his butt off all season and could have lost the championship today on a stupid action by another driver or some other bit of bad luck. But he drove a perfect final 30 laps or so and no one else did anything stupid to spoil it. I'll bet it was a pretty popular outcome in the garage also.

Sad to watch Jr go out as a non factor in his last season.  But he said he lost the will to take the risks and moves needed to win in fear of injury.  NASCAR  has rode off into the sunset for me Im afraid.  It pretty much died with Big E at Daytona...  Congrats to Truex he definitely deserved it, and I agree I hate this playoff/stage crap.

Married life and becoming a father/parent will do that to some guys.  We have a couple of guys who are also hanging up helmet but mainly age is their reason.  I can't remember his name now, but after his first race when he was cleared to drive,  he said his daughter asked him to quit racing and get a different job.  I now think it was Ernie Irvin.  I've lost count of how many young drivers never got a chance to become a champion because of an accident that maimed them for life or went to a better place.  All the drivers are my favorites even the lady who tried to race with the big guys. Congrats to the champions of all the NASCAR classes as well as my local champions.  It would be great if NASCAR went back to the old system.  But, can you be a champion if you never win a race?

Agreed. Martin Truex, Jr. DEFINITELY deserved that championship, and he fought to the last lap of the season with a magnificent drive to take what should already have been his! Dale, Jr., is a class act. I wonder whether he drove his last races still under residual effects from his concussions.  Perhaps some of the retirements (incl. Edwards) are influenced by the influx of tremendous young talent. Their talent pool has always been good, but never like this

You guys may not know it, but Martin is an amazing modeler! He and I have raced boats for many year and he is one of my best friends. Martin currently holds almost every nitro powered hydro record in the IMPBA! Here is a pic of Martin just after he set a new world record at my last event. He is a super great guy in person.

Being old school and having come up with racing from the fifties and on up , NASCAR today is not as exciting as way back then. I kind of lost interest when Harry Gant retired. I grew up with early NASCAR and local dirt tracks.Sprint cars still give me a thrill but I just cant set and watch NASCAR today.

Although he never won a championship, Dale Jr. did a whole lot to put fans in the stands. When his daddy died, the whole world of NASCAR turned their eyes toward him, and that folks, was a tremendous burden loaded on the young man's shoulder. Had Dale Sr. not been killed, I truly believe that Jr. would of been molded into a world class champion by his dad. In the end, he became a class act. To follow up on a previous comment...IMHO, Danica got the "short end of the stick," in equipment, crew chief and crew support. If she was put in cars like Truex, Johnson, Larson and Elliott had, she would of seen several top fives and even a win. As for the previous comment about going back to the old way of racing...I would take it one step further. Run actual production cars, not "look alike modifies." Yes...a production car can be made just as safe as what they are running now. I raced a "uni-body," circle track car for several seasons..."it took a lickin and kept on tickin." And finally...I would like to see NASCAR start a "Senior's Division." 50 yrs old and above, limited horse power, short track (less than a mile) and road course. 
Now! Back to building and flying model airplanes.

I knew some R/C boat racers way back...went to HS with Frank Ward, flew CL speed against Ed Fisher, and met Ron Erickson a couple times before he died suddenly. Ron "discovered" the Taipan 3.5cc engine, and Frank designed a hallmark hydro hull. I think Ed may have also designed a spiff hull, and set a bunch of records. This was all 50-ish years ago!    Steve

Still one of the good ole boys.   That is a much bigger pond than the one in Tuscon town.  Was fun watching those things run.  Also I bet that twin was something to hear in person.  Still have my daughters air boat that probably needs complete over haul.
