My I-Beamer project
« on: January 26, 2012, 11:26:29 AM »
A few months ago I posted my intent to build a airplane out of my scrap box and not spend any money on it at all. What I have thus far is this - all out of the scrap pile. Landing gear, spar, and controls are whats left of a Neptune clone I built in the early 90's. Had my daughter-n-law e-mail me the picture from my shop in Alabama as I am still in East Millinocket, Maine looking after my mom.   Nick

Nick - As you have seen at the field, all of my models look they are refugees from a scrap pile, so your project will blend right in, at least with my stuff. Hope your mom gets better, & hurry home.  Ed

Lester,

Nice, I like it!

What's that material on the gear wire?

The gear is wire covered w/balsa and the pants are carved/hollowed balsa. What am I gonna use for power? Brodak .40 is the plan, but subject to change - either that or an FP .40. In addition to what you see, the flaps are made and the rudder along w pieces for rear turtledeck and will be using canopy from the Neptune clone. That airplane was built many years ago from FM magazine plans. Lewis Popwell flew it one time and then it fell of the wall and broke into several pieces. This airplane is being built w/o plans per se so I don't really have an idea what it'll look like'. It will fly - the moments and airfoil are ARES.  Nick

Looks great Les! Keep us posted as you get it finished up.

What design is the Mustang plan hanging on the wall in the background?

Lester,

What measurement do you have between your mounts?

Looks like a 40 would drop right through.  n~

Actually a Brodak .40 is a tight fit.

I love the diagonal and parallel rib arrangement on this model. The airfoil should turbulate.. ;->

Nothing quite as pretty as a balsa model airplane in the bones.
