My Humbug
« on: March 07, 2009, 11:55:24 AM »
Here it is finally in its stupendous finish.  Was trying to keep it light.  Base covering is SLC from the Corehouse covered with 00 Silkspan put down with water base acrylic poly paint.  The numbers are Monokote and main finish is Brodak clear.  Weight is 2 pounds 4.4 ounces.  Power is an OS 25 FP with an Enya strap on muffler.  Yes it is the RSM Distribution version of the Humbug.  Have E-Mailed Eric on what I thought of the kit, so don't aske questions and I won't tell any lies.  It was a challenge.  I just hope it flies.  Last picture is the demented Poodle that got me thru this build.  DOC Holliday

Nice job Doc!   8)  H^^  #^  ;D

Can't tell - does yours have a single wheel & tip skids?  Lately I have been wondering about building one with electric - I think the e-power would come close to mimicing what Wild Bill and Bob Baron had in mind with the original high RPM flat pitch set-up...

We should know that, since you call your doggy "the Demented Poodle".  y1

Is the fuel tank inboard on the Humbug? Otherwise, I'm wondering why the "flat four" cowling. The 36 oz seems a bit porky for a .25, but the high A/R should carry it ok. You did the right thing with the clear dope finish, tho you might not like the fuel resistance level of it. I really can't see a reason to cover with plastic first, but maybe we'll talk about that in Tucson...  LL~ Steve

PS: I wanna see the Humb'er (and be) in Tucson REALLY SOON! It's snowing hard right now!  HB~> The drive might be pretty exciting....

The Humbug looks great, Doc. That's another plane I've always wanted to build. Will you bring it to VSC so I can oogle it?

BTW, Mork called. He wants his suspenders back. LL~

I was wondering the same thing. I would think that if a person was going to use 2 layers, 1 SLC and 1 Silkspan- the Slikspan would go on 1st for strength with a couple coats of clear, then the SLC on top to fuelproof everything and keep the weight down. Or am I totaaly off the mark here?

I did it the way someone told me it should go with the covering.  Takes less dope and give the  classic silkspan/dope finish.  I am smiling in them pictures.  The Humbug is mucho bigger than Primary Force and is 2 ounces lighter.  Difference is LA 25 on PF and FP 25 on the bug.  Probably make maiden flights in Tuscon town.  DOC Holliday.

PS:Only 5 more days before departure. jeh

That is a good looking aeroplane.  I had some plans for one awhile back.  Don't know what version.  Hal Howard, if I recall.  Might just be a good place to mount one of them nearly new OS 35S units I've been hoarding.  A man is known by the length of his stabilizer, you know.  Even if it takes a couple of booms to keep it stiff.
