Beautiful day here in central N.C.. Went down to the old grass runway where the old Erwin Airport used to be located. 69* 5 mph SW wind. Decided to fly the 25 year old Twister w/a unmuffed K&B 40 @ 9000 rpm's and it flew like new. All I had to do was backout the needle 3/4 turn and she fired on the 3rd flip. So I got some HONOR laps in for local WWII pilots in the area. I feel good about that, being I'm a military brat myself.
Another cool thing I just thought of was, this is where my father and uncle took me in 1969 to fly my 1st control line plane. A Cox PT19 .049. The blue and yellow one that had rubber bands holding the wings I believe ? It flew too ! 1st attempt. That's the best I've flown since. I had expert help because both adults with me had actual aircraft in the old tin hangers.

One problem, I have to sneak my riding lawn mower 4 miles from the house at daybreak in the morning to cut me a 180' circle real close to the ground, then sneak back home. Eat breakfast, hang out awhile then head back to the site like I had never been there. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do ? No harm to anyone, no houses, no one in site, just an old runway with a factory a 1/2 mile down on the other end of the runway.
Gates are always locked everytime I go to ask if they mind me flying. Today the town police came to watch sitting in their squad cars and left when I was through. Never said a word. I try to ask everywhere I go but this place seems it doesn't want to be asked. We'll see tomorrow ?
Hope others got a chance to paint the sky in December before Christmas. Later Cliff
