I'm astounded that the P-51 pilot managed to bail out -- there wasn't much time.  They said he parachuted to safety, from 100 feet -- that had to take some luck.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Wonder if Matt Neumann saw this one.  "Big Beautiful Doll" is history.

Wow, that's some really bad news. At least it seems everyone is ok. Very, very lucky however.

Hopefully "Mr. Skyraider" gets to do no more formation flying.

That's part of the problem when aircraft with different turning radius fly together. Bet that big wing on the Skyraider blocked the pilots view of the P51.

 Sorry, no excuse.

I'm trying to find out whether the P51 pilot is one of my customers here in Kent? Rob Davies flew a P51 "Big Beautiful Doll" from a private airstrip, and I regularly saw it parked there in the sun. I've only just heard about this, I don't think there was any TV coverage over here? His company makes R/C Drones and he was a very experienced pilot.  I shall have to ring them this morning.

My thoughts too. I wonder how much experience they had flying with eachother before this flight?

Yes, it was my customer Rob Davies, for somebody who is in his mid to late 60's he got out of that P51 very smartly! The conscientious of opinion over here was that it was Skyraider pilots fault.

His secretary told me yesterday, that he had just sold that P51 and the new owner asked him to fly it one last time in the airshow! ???
How many times have you said to yourself "I'll just have one more flight before I pack up" for it to be the final one for that model?

looks like the skyraider stuffed its wingtip into the area under the P-51 stab. ' possible control difficulties ' for it

Much better video over on Plane-a-Day.  Still too close to the ground for me to be comfortable.  Also a great nose on shot of the beautiful plane.  As usual tho everyone is ready to give blame on who caused the accident.  Maybe a little more communication between all parties.
