Another option is cutting the gaskets from thin cardboard, like cereal boxes, subscription cards from magazines, etc. - playing cards also work.
Clean / true up the sealing surfaces by placing a piece of 1200 wet / dry sandpaper on a piece of class, drip a bit of light oil on it and lightly sand the back mating surface of the crankcase to clean it up. High spots will be shinyb, low spots and gouges will be dark. Don't try and fix big defects - the snadpaper just cleans it up and highlights possible problem areas that may leak.
Sometimes you will see that the screw thread holes are higher than the rest of the case- usually from someone overtightening the screws. You may need to take a fine file to them to flatten the protrusion out even with the rest of the case.
