Many of us wonder?
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:46:15 AM »
??? ??????When I die what will happen to my Stuff???????  Here's an Idea? Lets make a list of younger people that fly and store there names address's etc and when we pass on these people can have our stuff. I think this is better than the trash can and EBAY. There are some younger folks out there who can benefit from our stuff when we can no longer use it. Please send in some comments on this and lets see if we can find a useful way to dispose of our stuff. #^ #^ #^

I think that's a good idea Chuck. It would seem that the local
clubs could keep this kind of info on hand, as well.

That is a good idea. I happen to think about that quite a bit. I worry that Zambelli will get it-just joking. But seriously, a while back there was the suggestion that Pampa establish some sort of an estate service to handle the model aviation portion of a deceased members stuff.

But, subsequent posts knocked it down because of the legal complications of setting up and administering such a service. Consequently, I still am in limbo thinking about it.

I solved that problem about three months ago. I gave it all to my flying buddies for personal use and for any club member who has a need.

They say you cannot take it with you; however, I plan to have everything I own cremated with me when I die.

I just retired from the funeral business after a 3+ year hitch and believe me nobody takes it with them. However if there had of been room in the casket I might of slipped in an R/C plane in one man's casket. He was an avid flier. But believe it or not I did bury bottles of booze, beer, fishing rods, golf clubs, pictures of Jesus and Bibles. I was waiting for some one to throw his money into the casket and I would of just written them a check and deposited it in the casket with him but that never happened. OBTW, when we cremate we usually used a cardboard box and there is not room enough for a 1/2A ARF in there let alone all of your flying stuff. Besides the only thing metal in there is the ankle bracelet with the ID number on it. All of this precious stuff has to go somewhere so if you get to feeling bad go to a club meeting and sell it cheap or give it away. I have never seen anyone turn down free model airplane stuff even if we don't need anymore of it. I personally don't have all that much, just about 20 .40 FPs and LAs along with a dozen or so built planes and a few foam wings and then there are the kits that I usually build two or three of when I build a kit.

All of us - even the younger ones - should have a will by now. My model airplane stuff is called out in my will, I know exactly who will inherit it. It's a simple matter to update your will as needed.

Knowing my family, everything will go in the dumpster.  Hopefully some of my modeling friends will step in and do like I did with Mr. Meriwether.  I talked his son into letting me put everything I could take on da bay for him.  DOC Holliday
