Long time
« on: March 02, 2006, 03:43:23 PM »
I just realized how long I have flown these toy air planes today. I went flying with an old high school and long times speed flying buddy Bob Mathison he said that he wanted to get a stunt schedule and for me to call it out to him the next time we went flying. Bob had built a Twister and had flown it a month earlier had to take it home to do a few tweaks to get it to fly level. Flew first and did a few maneuvers you know loops and inverted laps just to get the feel of the plane. I said fly it again and try the pattern. About half way through the flight I realized he was doing the OLD TIME PATTERN. We must have flown speed longer then I thought we did.

We have been doing this a long time Willis.  And Joey, I wish you were home, too.  I'm currently working on a Profile Stuka and a Sassy Saucer.  The first Sassy Saucer I built was in 1958.  Hope we can get out one day next week Willis.

Robert Mathison,

I live in Salt Lake City and am a friend and competitor with your son Joey.  He asked me to join this forum and say hello to you.  I seem to remember your and Willis' names mentioned way back in the various model mags.  I always wanted to build a Sassy Saucer but never got around to it.  Maybe someday.  Good to hear the two of you are back at C/L flying.

I fly Stunt too as well as speed.  In fact I am busy preparing for a Speed Contest and the Vintage Stunt Champs next week in Tucson.  You two ought to go to that.  It's really a trip down memory lane.  Year after year the most enjoyable contest I attend and I attend a lot.  Ask Joey, I travel a lot around the country going to contests both Speed and Stunt.

I hope some day our paths cross and we can talk about old times.  My experiences flying may not go back quite as far as you guys but I still count my 55 years of C/L as a long time.

Marvin,

I will see you in Tucson.  I should arrive sometime monday afternoon.

Dave Shrum,

Of course I'll be at the N W Regionals.  I believe I've been to all except the first one or two Regionals.  It like VSC are must Do's in my book.  See you there.

Jim Rhoades,

It's a pleasure to hear from you - any friend/competitor of Joey's is a friend of mine.  I plan to be in Muncie for the Nats in July.  If you are in the area, I look forward to meeting you.  Bob Mathison

Does my first engine being a DEEZIL count?  As I recall it ran pretty good at first, after we got the ingredients for fuel together, but me an' my brother, at that age, didn't understand what happens when you leave the cap off ether/karo based fuel, so we kinda ruined it trying to get it going on etherless mix.
