Lone Star Balsa
« on: January 19, 2019, 03:36:26 PM »
I have no idea if this is true or a rumor but someone posted on a model airplane site that Lone Star Balsa was back.  Has anyone else heard this.  I Googled them and found some sort of website that seemed to confirm this.

Hi Steve, it was kind of an unconventional looking website but I will go back and find it and post it …

Here is the link to the website....wk102221880.company.weiku.com/

Doing a search found a Yellow Pages listing:

https://www.yelp.com/biz/lonestar-balsa-forney

Quote
12058 S Profit Row
Forney, TX 75126
Phone number (972) 552-2922

Listing is unclaimed, so I can't vouch for the validity. There is also other listings, where one can post an on-line inquiry. However, I am hesitant to do so, until I know these listings are legitimate (i.e., tradekey.com, Weiku.com, etc.).

Well, come Monday, call the number shown.  I also believe if this is true, then Riley will be on here to let us know. I sure do hope so. H^^

Ty, I thought the same thing.  I thought that Riley would have announced this if they were reopening and that is why I kind of was suspicious.  But, who knows....

The text and the pictures are from many years ago when we did, indeed, restart Lonestar Balsa. (I did all of the web site for Riley and then Mike.) The address that is given is the address from back then, the address where the company existed when Mike tried to bring it back and where it was when they lost the lease and finally closed for good back in 2013. I would be VERY surprised if this isn't a rip-off.

Thanks for clarifying, Bill, now we know to stay away from these sites claiming to represent Lone Star Balsa.

Too bad, There was balsa, contest balsa, and then "Riley balsa". If you were nice and asked he would send you the most unbelievable stuff. I horded all the blocks for tips and fuse top blocks I could get from him. And if you wanted C grain, he'd sell it to you. And always a little hand-written prayer on the box.

When I build nowadays it's like "this wood is really nice, but it ain't like the stuff Riley would send." He knew controline.
