Finally had a good flying day and was able to get a couple flights on the Latency yesterday. Wow, it's everything I was hoping for. Flew the complete pattern on the first flight, Saito 62 ran great and only trim issues we could detect was it needs longer lines and the tank needs to move up a tad. By golly we have a stunt ship..
This is basically a Legacy, built using a Lost Foam wing jig from Bob Hunt and tricycle gear. Equal panel wing instead of the Legacy's offset, outboard flap is 1/8" wider than inboard. Flaps are reinforced with a carbon spar along with two layers of carbon matte, first layer put on with epoxy, 2nd layer with dope. Al Rabe is right, I gave up 2 ounces making the flaps stiff and straight but believe it was well worth it.
Stab also has a carbon spar with 1.7 deg positive incidence. This was suppose to be 1 deg but I slightly miscalculated and ended up with 1.7. Was a little worried it might be too much but ended up being fine. This thing groves and tracks better in rounds than anything I've ever flown. Engine has 1.3 deg down and 1 deg right thrust.
CG is about 22% MAC, about 3/8 ahead of what's on the Legacy plans but doesn't seem to slow the turn any. This is something everyone noticed early with 4 strokes, CG can be ahead of the design location but it doesn't seem to effect the turn. It groves so well I might try adding a little tail weight just to see what it does with the CG at the design location.
Covered with polyspan all Brodak dope finish. RTF weight 64 ounces. Right now I'm running a Rev-Up 13-7.5 but may go to a 13-7 depending on what longer lines do and if I can get the same run characteristics with a slightly lower pitch prop.
This is without a doubt the best stunt ship I've ever built and I'm one happy guy..
