laser cutting
« on: April 28, 2007, 07:56:27 PM »
Could some possibly tell me what the process is for laser cutting. I have a set of planes that i would like to scratch build from but cant seem to get the wing ribs right for the life of me. I was told i had to get the plans done in cad format but i don't have a clue what that means  ???

Steve: First off, what plans are they for ( what planes ) and who's plans are they ( who made them). Do they show each rib or the root and tip only. In the Vendors Corner Action Hobbies can probobly do what you need.

The simplest solution, Steve, by far, is to send your plans to Kyle Tankersley  - - http://www.tanks-hangar.com/  - - and ask Kyle to cut a set of ribs for you. His prices are very reasonable. He cut a Biceps "short-kit" for me for $85 (I think), which included everything excepr sheet and strip wood and hardware. Reasonably good wood selection, and very nice laser cutting. I haven't taken stuff out of the box yet, but there must be 15 sheets of ribs and half-ribs, plus all the other curved or shaped bits and pieces.

Hi Steve,

"Action Eddie" is in the Vendor's Corner here.  He can do whatever you want, I'm sure!  Of course, Kyle at "Tank's Hanger" is another great laser cutter.

Getting a set of ribs laser cut, or even a whole "short kit" really makes the process of plans building much easier.

I highly reccomend Tanks-Hangar. Kyle has done several plans for me and I couldn't be happier with the results. I just got another box of parts today and have no issues with anything he cut. I also got the Biceps like Ralph and there is not a whole lot left to be done by me except assemble it.

It wasn't that you could and others couldn't, its that you did and others didn't.
