It's kind of a dumb reason for it but it's true none the less..  
As I was test fitting it the pivot shaft kept falling out so once I had it all together
I tacked glued it in place with the hopes of removing it when Jim's set was to arrive and well...  
the tack gluing ended up being permanent.     Live and learn.

The good news is the original La Donna had a 3" so at least I don't feel so bad.

Even better news is Jim made a 3 1/2" that will actually fit.
