It's a fun plane. Easy to keep light with nice wind penetration.

Ed,

The original was covered with transparent Red Baron iron on. Pretty basic stuff.

The failure happen due to a poor decision on my part. I put in a substandard bellcrank. It was one of those "oh, that will be OK" decisions we sometimes make at 11:30 on Saturday night after too many hours in the shop. Too bad, too. The original was one of the best flying planes I've ever owned. I hope the new version is as good. It's just about done.

Any possibilities of a Short Kit?  Might be a possibility of doing both a full and short version?  (just might add more sales)

Just so you guys know I really am working on a new one...

Original plane was a bit heavy since it was built largely out of the scrap box with whatever I happened to have around including the covering. Ready to fly weight was about 56oz. The new one has a projected all up weight, ready to fly of about 48-50oz. Should be a good plane.

How many of you guys would want the carbon gear I did on the original (or similar). It would probably add to the final price of the kit so that would be a consideration.

Randy,
If those gears are all hand fabricated then you right about cost. And since i know of no automated method of making them it is worth the money.
If Walt does it a,t this stage of developement I'm in for the gear also.

Hi Walter,

I would suggest that you allow those that would want the CF gear to deal directly with Randy.  Include an aluminum gear in the kit.  That would save you, and Randy, both the time and money of the CF gear.

Just a thought...........

First flights today demonstrated that the gear works pretty well. But truth is, an aluminium gear would probably work fine. But the CF gear looks cool.

Randy,

since you have the plane in front of you, what aluminum gear would best fit the R.M.D.

>>since you have the plane in front of you, what aluminum gear would best fit the R.M.D. <<

Walter,

I suspect that most any aluminium gear would work OK. Just have to make sure that the stance is wide enough (I'll have to get out an measure to give a number - I'll do that tomorrow).

I was looking at doing the carbon gear, but I suspect, as I've been checking things out that the cost would probably be prohibitive. I do mostly prototyping molds for personal use. They work fine for two or even three pulls. But to do 20+ sets, I'd need a production mold. They can be a bit steep to make. So, I'm checking on that now to see if it's reasonable to do.
