Kevin Muckelroy and his Parrot P-40 with ST46
« on: November 06, 2007, 09:23:50 AM »
Hi guys, does anyone know what has happened to Kevin? I believe I ended up with his P-40, I was looking through some of my old pampa magazines and spotted him, with the P-40. The plane was handed down from one person to another and finally flew into my garage, to finish its life. Great flying plane just old, like me. I just wanted to find out some of its history. Its a scratch build and done very well. I couldn't find him in the member list. (Found him in stunt new in 97) Appreciate any information, thank you Gary

You might get some answers if you could give some more information.

What state did Kevin live in?

Did he build the airplane?

I'm not sure which state he lived in. I don't know anything about the gentleman. All I know for sure is I found a picture of him, with the Parrot P-40 in 1997 stunt news, May/June issue on page 109. I ended up with the plane and just was hoping to get some info on her. Thank you for your input, Gary

Gary,

The reason I asked you for more information, was that Mike Ringrose flew a ST .46 powered Parrot P-47 at VSC 6 in 1994. Mike was from California in the Los Angeles area. His company moved to a different part of California, and Mike disappeared from sight.

Too bad; Mike was a great guy.

I remember Walter telling me the plane came out of the L.A. area. The gentleman build a very nice flying airplane. Its light, straight, nice lines. I wanted to know what kind of paint he used, different from anything we have used. It doesn't seem a be auto paint. Thank you for the information, Gary

:oWow I know this is old post but now I can clear a few questions since my disappearance in model airplanes.
I picked that P-40 up at a VSC contest. all ready built but not finished. I modified it for a ST .46. That plane took me up into Advanced Competitions.
The Paint? Sig Dope simple as that. Clear coats have a pearl added to it.
I can not even recall when I got rid of all my stuff back then, Harley Davidsons, Women and what not. I do know that I donated a bunch of stuff to Eric Rule at RSM for The Knights of the Round Circle club.
Good to hear that P-40 brought happiness to someone else.

Hi Kevin. Tony Drago here. That P-40 is the one you got from me at VSC. It was covered with Sig's Koverall and i believe it  had just a lite gray primer coat on it.
I had it built for me by the late Kenn Smith. I always liked the plane. Great detail to that design.
The magazine article is a great read on this P-40. I hope that is also helps answer some questions also
I'd love to have it back in my hanger.
 All the best, Tony

Thanks Tony for more insight.
I had finished it in a Silver from the state I got it in from you. But after cutting the front apart I had totally stripped it then recovered with silkspan. Went away from a Military look went with a Gray and Burgundy trim using Sig Dope and Acrylic Lacquer color pigments.
Then mixed in some pearl in the clear cotes. I really liked that airplane. Flew fantastic. never needed any major construction or trim changes.

The OP, Gary Anderson, passed away from cancer maybe five or ten years ago. He was a good person and sad situation.  :'( Steve
