Tom Dixon did his plans from photos of the KA-10. He never had the original plane in his hand. He got quite close considering how he did it.
I talked to Tom when he first brought the model to a contest and used it that day. He didn't stay with it for long.

I like the lines also but, I would want to put my aerodynamics AND force arrangements on it too.
That's exactly what I did.
Here's my lookalike at the 2016 WCh in Australia:

Unless I am mistaken and I could be, there was a KA6, KA8 and a KA10 and I think they were all designed originally by Anatoly Kolsenikov.  Then Yatsenko did one very similar that he called the CLASSIC in F2B.  I think I have my facts straight.  Thanks for everyones input so far.

Mike
The Classic next to my KA-10 lookalike that has been made partly of a KA-8 plan with russian text. I have no idea where it came from, too long ago since I got it.
Took ~1/2" of the top of the fin to make it look 'right'. Had to shorten the nose for the heavier motor. Simplified the three scoop air intake to one with roughly the same outer dimensions. Extendeded the landing gear to accomodate 13+ diam. props.
Being based on another non in line design, the wing sits lower in the fuse. But I'm happy, it's my best plane ever.

Compare my 2016 lookalike to the original in France 1990. For sure the american plan is way off, just as mine is.
So I'd strongly advice against using this to create a 'real' KA-10.

I want to thank everyone for all the contributions in this thread.  This information has moved the possibilities of an enhanced KA10 kit more feasible for the near future.  It has revised a lot of interest in the series and I do have several people who have contacted me for a kit if we proceed with the project.  Thank you again for all the input.

I started a build today on the KA10 and will be powering it with a ST.51.  If this is a successful flyer, I plan on building the smaller KA5 and putting a ST.46 on it.  I have been talking with Eric Rule about the possibility of a lazer cut kit down the road.

even though I'm not flying control line anymore - if you kit the KA10  - i'll take one

I personally think this kit needed someone to do a built up wing version.

Milton the kit we are doing has a built up wing.  Eric Rule at RSM is drawing it in CAD as we speak

Not really, just a few pictures from the plan and two 1:1 A4 copies of the canopy area.
For me enough to reconstruct to a level I was happy with, judge for yourself when looking at my photo.
I think I got closer in looks than the american existing plan. That is further off, IMO.
Another point: the KA-8 and -10 are NOT in line designs, close, but not entirely.
The motor and stab are, but the wing is (if I remember correctly)~ 8mm below the center line.
As you can see on my plan, I took some off of the fin, looked more balanced on my model.

I think this is the nicest, somewhat happier colours after cccp collapsed.
I have seen this model somewhere lately but I can't get the name or location of current owner in my head. Propably in Kiev.
This picture was taken at the W. Ch. 2008 in France. I remember so well, because it was such a disastrous championship for me.
The pilot was a young man from Kazachstan.

Just wondering about this.

It seems that the Russian KA Series planes have engine, wing and stab/elev all in line in these photos. What advantage is this over the standard "Nobler" setup?

Thanks,
Roger

In line? ::) Did you read this?>> http://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/ka-series/msg458333/#msg458333
Many models with motor, wing and stab not in line are flying extremely neutral. It's all about balance.
In line is another way to achieve this. My lookalike is not an inline and flies neutral.
Here's the man, Gerard Billon, who explained (he took the measurements) to me that the KA-10 is not entirely in line.
A model built by Anatoli, specially for him. In Frech colors! ;D

I have been looking at the three views on the F2B Mace R-2 Shark and the KA10 from Model Aviation. Thanks Ned-088, also saw the photo above of the fuselage elevation/section. 8mm...5/16".

Thanks.

The straight back end of the fin, on the Dixon plan and Mike Griffins kit, where did it come from. The pictures I have seen of Kolesnikovs planes, its always have a slight forward leanig from bottom to the top.

This was probably my last WCh.
I'm still flying F2B, but don't pursue a competitive career, one must know when it's time.... ;)
