Junkyard Wars - CHANGE!!!
« on: December 19, 2010, 08:22:08 PM »
After speaking with John, I've decided to make a slight change.   #^ #^ #^

For 2011, I will permit the use of a STOCK Fox 35 Stunt engine.
All other rules will remain the same.

And remember, go for the POWER   y1 y1. Forget the 1/2A engines. I cannot even recall one flying.

Regarding the standard for performance, Joe Gilbert and company have raised the bar so high that some real work will be needed to match them.

BUT, good luck to all.

Bob Z.

I remember a few years ago we had a Junkyard wars event and the guy who won it, rocked up with a little 1/2 a combat machien that was build out of laminated ply & carbon fibre. I repeatedly saw it get hit mid air, engine stopped, but no damage.

I think I heard reports it was ran over by a car and still flew  ~>

It was run over by a Fiat.  Fix it again, Tony.

That hardly counts.

Van Duzer/Hampshire won second at 2002 Brodak with an .049 TeeDee. Was first in the air. Flew well. Woulda won it if dumm-o Van Duzer didn't try to loop it. Those flower crates didn't have much of an airfoil!

W.   :'(

P.S. Same team also won GSCB one year with same TeeDee!   :D

Edit for correction: That was a Black Widow Z-Man, not a teeDee

'Fix it again, Tony"
Possibly one of the most idiotic statements I've seen on this site.

This is about junkyard wars, not automotive ignorance.

No, this was about a car running over a toy airplane and then flying again.  I merely surmised it was probably a small car.

It could have been a small Ford.  That would be Found on Road Dead.  Or perhaps Fix or Repair Daily.  They're jokes, Mr. Zambelli.  Simple jokes.  My own igrorance only extends to the game of football, and sexual relations with livestock.  Otherwise, I pretty much know what's going on.

I appreciate your concern, however.  Feel free to lambast me at every opportunity, and put me in my proper place when it needs to be done.  Hanging in the closet amongst the lingerie would suit me fine.  Black has always been a good color for me.

As a professional mechanic and an owner of a twenty man shop for thirty year I feel that I can speak about Fiats with a bit of insight.  Now, a 124 was a fair ride but the 128 was the most troublesome car ever made.  The 1/2A  plane was still flyable but the 128 most likely needed new ball joints and a timing belt after the run in. Now, if the plane had been the new 35 sized unit State Farm would have to total the car.

Good reply Clayton.  Black! Yes black!

Hopefully the change in Junk Yard Wars will produce new winners, but then again, maybe not.  I know of only two planes being run over by cars.  One won the NATS the year the plane was put back together after being run over.  The other is on You Tube.  Starting out with the guys wife going shopping while he sits in the shop adoring his new ride.  I have the DVD that Uncle Jimby produced about that incident.  It was premiered at VSC that year and brought the house down.  Now if I remember right, first incident was a lad by the name of Bobby Hunt.  The second incident was Theodore Fancher, H^^

First off, let me state that most of the people who make that assinine statement to me have never owned or driven a FIAT.
I have no personal experience with the 128 but I did indeed hear from a few owners who were less than pleased.
When the FIAT 129 came out, it was called "A 128 with one more mistake".

To my own case, my 1974 FIAT 124 (I bought it in 1977) is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.
With 140,000 miles on it, it still has the original clutch starter, alternator and untouched carburator.
No rust ever and I just repainted it because the original paint was fading.
It uses no oil.
It handles as well as my Ferrari or ALFA thanks to some small changes I made.
It's just a great little car.

But, to the subject of Junkyard Wars.
I was not aware of any 1/2 A powered examples flying but I'll take your word for it.
Now, it's more than just a matter of flying - we have to start thinking real stunts.
The event was monopolized by Team Absurd for quite a few years.
Then, Joe Gilmore blew us away by doing more of the pattern than anyone had seen before.
The craft has become just a bit too standard - the swept wing design has dominated.
So, I plan to rewrite the rules a bit to encourage more creative thinking.
They will be published long before the 2011 Fly-In.

I've never made an assinine comment.  Here or anywhere else.  It was a joke.  A common joke for those with a sense of humor.  I didn't say your mom wears Army boots or ask if you'd stopped beating your wife yet.  A joke.  Nothing more.

You (Bob) don't need to speak condescendingly (the trait of displaying arrogance by patronizing those considered inferior) to me.  I had enough of that in the tenth grade (best three years of my life for what it's worth).  It (the Fiat 850 I often sat in on my way to high school) was a small car.  I wasn't trying to insult anyone.  Hell, I drive a mini van.

As I said, I'm ignorant about amorous relations with farm animals.  I don't think I need to be on the receiving end of anyone's rudeness.

Does stock Fox 35 stunt engine mean I cannot use my Fox 35 with a Stuffer Back Plate and Hemi Head?

Guess we will stick with the super secret OS we had last year.

Do you give pattern points?

Clancy: STOCK Fox 35.

Pattern points - great idea. I'll see what I can come up with.

Remember, this event is for all of YOU, not me.

Any suggestions should come to me by personal e-mail and I will consider every one of them.

Let's do all we can to make JYWs even more fun than it was in the past.

I guess I had better dig out the old phillips mangled screws again.  Been replacing with allen head/socket head screws ever sinceI found a source for them.  Yes some places say the engine is not stock if the screws are not phillips. H^^
