Don, yea I remember Mike talking about the other Thompson is SR Stunt. Mike Thompson was only 15 in 1969 so, I think that put him in Junior in 69 or do I have my years wrong for JR and SR. Mike graduated from HS in Jun 1973 at 18 years of age and his parents gave him a yellow and white GMC Pick-up for his graduation present. Oh, how do I know this info. Mike and I lived in and flew in the same town and spent hours at each others houses during the summers getting ready for contest and building/painting together. In fact, when I started re-treading I called up his dad to get his phone number so I could get him going again a well. That late September day in 1996 is when I learned he had been killed in a automobile accident in the Sierra-Nevada mountains just two weeks prior to my calling. Since then I have been going to build a replica of his last competition model which was a 40-46 sized Silhavy Gypsy. I think he liked that plane because of Jim Silhavy's finishing abilities.
