I just received an email stating Jim VanLoo made his local paper for making it into the Hall of Fame.
Congrats Jim, you deserve it.

Nice article, thanks for sharing Walter. Honestly, I didn't realize he was still with us! It certainly does prove that this stuff can keep us young!

About time for a very fine gentleman. I did not know him that well, but, remember when he would come to Swope Park in KC Mo and go home with hardware flying aerobatics. When he went to RC we kind of lost contact with him. Congradulations to very fine gentleman that thought of pulling his stunt plane off the wall and flying with us again. Having fun, DOC Holliday

Lets give Big THANKS this morning to:

Don,
That is in fact Mike Thompson, with his dad Bob Thompson holding his Mystere. Gee, I thought all this time that the person posing with Mike was Van Loo since the Mystere is Van Loo's design....
Check with Dennis Adamisin they flew together at the Nats a lot in the late 60's and early 70's
Oh well, guess there are lots of things I don't know yet!

Don, yea I remember Mike talking about the other Thompson is SR Stunt. Mike Thompson was only 15 in 1969 so, I think that put him in Junior in 69 or do I have my years wrong for JR and SR. Mike graduated from HS in Jun 1973 at 18 years of age and his parents gave him a yellow and white GMC Pick-up for his graduation present. Oh, how do I know this info. Mike and I lived in and flew in the same town and spent hours at each others houses during the summers getting ready for contest and building/painting together. In fact, when I started re-treading I called up his dad to get his phone number so I could get him going again a well. That late September day in 1996 is when I learned he had been killed in a automobile accident in the Sierra-Nevada mountains just two weeks prior to my calling. Since then I have been going to build a replica of his last competition model which was a 40-46 sized Silhavy Gypsy. I think he liked that plane because of Jim Silhavy's finishing abilities.
Jim Pollock, PS
Here is Jim Sillhavy with myself at 2003 Brodak's
