I want one of these
« on: April 17, 2012, 08:14:21 AM »

How does the gear come up? Is it a compressed-air charged, hydraulic system? Or is it purely mechanical? Electric motor assist? Is there a "Gear not down/low altitude" warning? The narrow 'wheel-base' looks dangerous while taxiing! Is it more prone to ground loops?! Is there a back-up braking system? Etc., etc.

Give new meaning to the definition of a good landing: Any that you can walk away from!

If the landing gear is powered by compressed gas, I don't think I would want to hang around him. LL~

Bet it gets hot in that small cabin. Gotta be careful what you eat.     ;D

No room for a real cooler!   n~

Nothing like flying alone. Lotta fun in that.

Plus the pilot has to rely on a good friend to pick him up when he lands. What if his "chaser" gets drunk waiting for this guy to come down from his mental flying high? Can't call a cab. Unless it's a cab truck.

Assembly, take apart, lot's of work for flying alone.  HB~>

Been in gliders, relaxing to some degree, but boring to a greater degree.

Not for me.

If I was so mucho younger I would go for it.    How can it be boring with scenery like that.   Excitement is getting to the landing spot on time,  not over shoot or under shoot.    H^^

John,

Put enough time in the air and the scenery can get boring. The higher you go the more boring it can get.

Doesn't feel like your moving sometimes.

It's quite common to see gliders equipped with small electric engines turning a propeller which extends upward behind the canopy, basically over the CG.

This takes some of the apprehension and liability away from the task of finding a good area to land.

There's actually companies who specialize in the conversion.

Costs quite a bit.

I have flown and owned real gliders.  Nothing else like it.
If I was 20 years younger and lived in the right location, I would have one of these.

Allen,

Yes I know.

All you glider pilots say the same thing.   n~

And I'm fine with that.

Flying a glider is an "art form," and most don't realize this.

How did you get into it?
