I think I need a keeper
« on: June 18, 2020, 03:10:00 PM »
Well, I have done some dumb things in my life but I think this one takes the cake.  I was almost finished with my Pat Johnston EPIPHANY and had put the final coat of clear dope on it before paint and I set it out in the driveway to dry and gas off a little.  My wife had asked me to run an errand for her so I jumped in the car, put it in reverse and then heard this awful noise.  Yes, I backed right over the model that I had been working on for weeks and totally destroyed it.  Maybe I just need to go into a home somewhere so I am not a danger to myself anymore.

Yep I've known that for years.

When you consider all of the balsa and epoxy dust, dope and airplane glue fumes we have all breathed in for years and years then add in turning around in circles it's no wonder that there occasionally may be short disconnects between our brain and body. Add in all of the general abuse done by sports, outdoor activities, booze and excess eating that some of us have done (I am firmly convinced that our bodies remember all of this and just decide one day to "get back at us") it makes me wonder how we have all lived so long.

You are innocent! Old age, breakdown of your mind, need for a keeper - NO WAY! Knowing you as long as I have, Mike, I think we can both agree that the crushing of your model was quite simply the fault of your car.  LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

At least your wife didn't drive over it like Ted Fancher's.

A number of years ago, I shot catalyzed polyurethane topcoat on a plane. It was shot outside and I brought it into the shop to cure. It was a hot day and I left the shop door open. I came back a couple of hours later and the plane had twisted in the stooge holding it, there were drag marks all down the top of the wing and a dead bat on the floor, apparently overcome by the fumes. It was sort of repairable, but I had to sand out all the paint back down into the substrate repair the damage and reshoot it all. Unfortunately, the plane flew like, well, crap.

Randy that might take the prize for the most bizarre incident.   I am sure it wasnt funny at the time but I just have this image of the bat being overcome by fumes.

Mike , I tried to destroy my plane today & wasn't able to even do that. I went to the field knowing the grass snaggles were near a foot high launched anyway the up line snagged & nearly stalled & destroyed the plane. It was like a movie knowing the result ahead . Then I drove home washed my van , set the plane in the yard ,,, the neighbor's dog comes over to chew, jump or Sh@#<t on it I got the miserable Kerr with the hose.  At that point I put it away ..

Mike, I heard that quite awful sound ALL THE WAY OVER HERE.  Ouch!

Let me pitch in and help - I'll come pick you and all that airplane "stuff" up, then drop you off with a keeper.  No worries, I'll somehow, some way figure out what to do with all the "stuff".  Just wanna be helpful, you know ...

I think that gets the BROKEN PROP AWARD by proxy.  You had a premonition of the model crashing on the 60 foot circle at the flying field, so lets get it over with!
