I need a new plane!!
« on: June 07, 2009, 07:50:20 AM »
Killed my TutorII yesterday. My nephew spent the night and brought his clown, I told him we would go flying. Swirling winds changed as I launched from my stooge, big wingover and a even bigger crash. The wing survived with minor sheeting damage. Will save it for a winter project(jet style profile).
I knew the day would come when it would have to be replaced. I typically buy a kit the day I go watch the NATS, last year I bought a Brodak H. Hurricane. Looks like I need a replacement for the Tutor. Any suggestions? The only requirement is it needs to be a profile, and can use the .46 as a powerplant.I'm considering the Cardinal, any others?
Oh, my brother in law and nephew crashed the clown also, I'm waiting to hear if it is repairable.

Do yourself a favor and get the Pathfinder, the Cardinal is a good choice but the pathfinder beats it hands down. Make sure and get you a 12.25x3.75 prop and cut it down to 11.75 for the LA 46. If your not happy with it I'll buy the prop from you. :)

The Brodak P-40 ARF is a good choice as well.

Steven: I've got 2 Imitation kits left. The Imitation and LA 46
are a killer combo. My son has been flying this combo lately,
and he really likes it.

Wouldn't a Primary Force/LA46 combo be pretty good, too? Most fplks are using .40's, but the OS .46 is actually (a teeny bit) lighter than the LA .40 . . .

I dont think you could get enough prop on the 46 to really make it work on a primary force.

my vote, the brodak P-40, great combination. with a 12.25 x 3.75 APC stock, not cut down,,  S?P S?P

I just finished a Brodak P40 about a week ago and now have about 20 or so flights on it. It is powered by an LA46 running a 12.25x3.75APC prop. So far I think it is going to be an excellent combination. I think this would be a good choice for a profile.  I also have a Pathfinder with an LA46 and it is also a good choice. I highly recommend either one.

I just put three flights on a Brodak P-40 LA .46 and brought it home in one piece; and that says a lot for the combo. These were the first flights after a long winter off. y1

Heck, I just got my plane flying really well and the bellcrank broke in flight. Not a pretty sight. Darned, that plane flew really well, too.

Why is it that the ones that fly good are the ones we end up crashing??

The fact that the poor fliers are relegated to "hangar queen" status might explain their longevity.

In reply to post #8 by Doc Holiday, yes I put 1/2 inch of dihedral under each wing tip as shown on the plans for the P40.

ARF P-40, ARF Cardinal, or an ARF Pathfinder would be on my list.

It will definitely be a kit, leaning towards the Pathfinder. Helps pass the time until my wife(best friend) gets home. And no she isn't standing here while I type this.

I'm glad you're considering a kit, especially a Pathfinder kit, for obvious self interest.

I'm convinced that after you take the time, with an ARF or ARC, to bring certain items up to what I consider acceptable standards, you'll have almost as much time invested as you would starting from a kit.

Mate,  Get a Pathfinder.

They handle very responsively and can turn very sharply if required to get out of trouble. They also handle the wind very well.  The tricycle undercarriage makes takeoffs and landings smoother and easier too.  I just flew mine into 6th place at the NSW State Championships in F2B Advanced last weekend.

Here's a pic.

Cheers
