Howard, still at it
« on: June 02, 2014, 10:34:30 PM »
I caught Howard at the airport again today.  I think he means it this time.  He is getting full patterns now but with the usual trim issues.  Well, maybe no so usual considering the all new Igor system and the fancy controls.  It looks pretty good for level flight, but continuing down the PW trim sheet we are seeing some more issues.  At least he has properly identified for the country and a ready made, already installed FAI sticker.  Look at the belly of the beast.  Where is Igor when you need him?

Looks like he had a little boo boo.   Also is Igor going to help someone beat him at the Worlds?   I know Howard can do it.  Go Howard.

My stunt planes always tip up on the nose on the first landing, damaging the cowl.  I put some tape on the chin to prevent the damage.  This plane hasn't nosed over yet.  It's waiting for me to remove the tape.

One of the less heavily advertised functions of the airborne imagers that FLIR Systems sells is to serve as auxiliary landing gear in the event of mechanical or pilot failure.  Apparently the three-axis systems make pretty good (if expensive) nose wheels once all the mechanical stops in the elevation axis break.  Perhaps you could just put a little scale FLIR system there, to serve as a skid plate.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Igor can give one very good hint for trimming ... the flow chard for trimming does not have end point where you can stop VD~ ... trimming is ability and life style, not single task to do  >:D

At least it's orange. I wouldn't recognize a Howard plane that didn't have orange on it.

You aren't finished trimming until the last piece goes in the trash can.  VD~

Yes, and I remember (perfectly) launching one of your branny-new models only to see it nose over. More than once. With cowl damage.

Of course it was only a minor deal that you were leaving for the Nationals soon. As in the next day...
